NSU Theatre Company, in collaboration with The Limbic System, Inc., a project of Patrick Mullins, is pleased to announce their co-production, Choir Boy by Tarell Alvin McCraney, a "stirring and stylishly told drama, Tarell Alvin McCraney cannily explores race and sexuality and the graces and gravity of history." -NY Daily News.
Patrick Mullins is Virginia Stage Company's Interim Artistic Director, who especially enjoys directing and adapting work that empowers community growth and interaction. Some projects of late include a synthpop musical version of The Taming of the Shrew, a video heavy Romeo and Juliet that integrated area high school students with professional actors, an R&B fueled tour of Julius Caesar, and a reworking of A Christmas Carol that celebrated the music and instruments of Dickens' period.
Anthony Stockard, will direct this "exceptionally beautiful, heart-pummeling piece of theater" (Atlanta Journal-Constitution).
Anthony Stockard is the Director of Drama and Director of the NSU Theatre Company, which Stockard spearheaded his first year at NSU in 2014. Now, finishing his second year at NSU selected and directed sell-out shows including Lorraine Hansberry's A Raisin in the Sun, Ntozake Shange's For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide/When the Rainbow Is Enuf, and Dreamgirls.

The Charles R. Drew Prep School for Boys is dedicated to the creation of strong, ethical black men. Pharus wants nothing more than to lead the school's legendary gospel choir, but finding his way is not easy if he sings in his own key. Set against the sorrowful sounds of hymns and spirituals, Tarell Alvin McCraney follows his acclaimed trilogy The Brother/Sister Plays with this stirring portrait of a young gay man finding the courage to tell the truth about himself.

Choir Boy runs Friday through Sunday, June 17-19 at Zeiders American Dream Theater in the Town Center Area of Virginia Beach. Friday and Saturday evening shows at 7:00pm and Saturday and Sunday matinees at 2:00pm. Tickets are $25 each. Seating is limited.
