The Alden in McLean's 2013-2014 McLean Kids Performance Series ends with a performance by Richmond, Va.-based puppet company Applause Unlimited. "The Magic of Hans Christian Andersen" will be presented at 2 p.m. today, June 7. Tickets are $15, $10 for MCC district residents. The Alden is located at 1234 Ingleside Avenue, inside the McLean Community Center.
In this award-winning show, two puppeteers combine their talents to present three of Hans Christian Andersen's best loved stories. Puppetry, masks and storytelling fill the stage as the performers manipulate more than 20 hand puppets, rod puppets and marionettes while telling "The Ugly Duckling," "Thumbelina" and "The Emperor's New Clothes." The production is appropriate for children ages 4 and older.
For more than 20 years, Applause Unlimited has been creating and performing quality puppet shows based on classic tales. Principal Christopher Hudert and his puppeteers perform in an open staging, theatrical, storytelling style where the performer is often visible to the audience.
