The McLean Community Center (MCC), in cooperation with The DC Blues Society, will present a Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration, "Embrace the Dream: A Blues & Barbecue Dinner" from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 16, in the Center's community hall. Admission is $5 for adults; $3 for children age 10 and younger. The Center is located at 1234 Ingleside Avenue.
The soul food dinner will be catered by The Tender Rib of Temple Hills, Md. Entertainment will be provided by Curtis Blues, a preservationist of acoustic Delta Blues music of the 1920s and 1930s. Blues' performance takes the audience on a fascinating historical journey through this deeply American musical genre. He plays a wide variety of instruments, from the steel resonator guitar, to the one-string Diddly Bo (not to be confused with Bo Diddly). His collection also includes the African gourd banjo, a homemade guitar, box banjo and harmonica, among other instruments.
