Discover Magic (www.discovermagic.com) is designed to teach key life skills to 8 to 12 year olds through the process of learning to perform magic. The course was created by internationally-known, award winning magician and educator Michael Ammar and his creative team after nearly twenty years of research. Studies have shown that the art of magic helps kids build key life skills like self-discipline, self-confidence, and teamwork. Scientists and researchers frequently study magicians' techniques to gain new insights into how the human mind works. Discover Magicis an educational program specifically designed to teach respect, creativity, confidence, and other valuable life skills while kids learn how to amaze and mystify with a series of incredible magic tricks.

Every Discover Magic class features custom created props -- one of the key traits of a true magician. Each student receives secret file folders and special bonus material that can be unlocked online with a special code after each class.

The course meets every Tuesday for 8 sessions from 4-5:30pm October 27 thru December 15, 2015. There will be a public Discover Magic Showcase on the Firehouse stage on Saturday December 19 from 1pm to 2pm when students will perform their magic. Tuition for the class is $250 which includes everything the student magician between the ages of 8 and 12 needs. Registration is limited to the first twenty applicants, and registration closes Tuesday, October 13. To register please go to http://www.firehousetheatre.org/#!abracacademy/cpw9.

"We're thrilled to be partnering with Watt Hyer to bring this national program to Richmond," says Ammar. Hyer has been studying and performing magic for over fifty years. Watt returned to Richmond to look after ailing and aging family members and to take care of the family farm in Hanover County. Having practiced the art of magic since the age of six, and having performed magic throughout Wyoming, when Hyer returned to RVA he joined the local chapter of the International Brotherhood of Magicians and has been President of the Richmond Ring for seven years.

Michael Ammar has been called "One of the World's Most Influential Magicians" byMagic Magazine. He has received six awards from the Academy of Magical Arts, and an F.I.S.M. Gold Medal. A veteran performer, Ammar's resume includes appearances on Johnny Carson's Tonight Show, the Merv Griffin Show, David Letterman Show, CNN, and the Travel Channel. He has performed in venues as varied as the Vatican and George W. Bush's inaugural banquet. Ammar has produced over 40 instructional DVDs, and his bestselling book is now in its 21st printing.
