Firehouse Theatre presents the World Premiere of MARY C. BROWN AND THE HOLLYWOOD SIGN

Firehouse Theatre presents the world premiere of Dory Previn's musical revue MARY C. Brown AND THE HOLLYWOOD SIGN in a limited run for eight performances from Friday, December 8 thru Saturday, December 16. The cabaret revue is based on Previn's 1972 cult concept album that centers on a would-be starlet's attempt to break into the movies and the misfits she befriends or exploit or shun her. The Firehouse production is directed by George Boyd, with musical direction and arrangements by Matthew Pool and features performers Dan Cimo, Kelsey Cordrey, Nicole Forret Oh, Jessi Johnson, Matt Polson, Stevie Rice, and Emily Skidmore accompanied by Steve Belven, Troy Gatrell, and Starlet Knight.

Dory Previn (1925-2012) was a lyricist who worked with and eventually married composer Andre Previn until he had an affair, fathered a child, and married Mia Farrow. After the divorce Dory Previn started a notable career as a singer/songwriter. MARY C. Brown AND THE HOLLYWOOD SIGN was her fourth solo album. She was inspired to write the concept album after reading a small newspaper article about a young actress who killed herself by jumping off the "H" of the iconic "Hollywood" sign. The album was adapted into a musical revue that was headed to Broadway after a short run in Los Angeles but the critics panned the L.A. show and the Broadway transfer evaporated. Director George Boyd was friends with Previn and has been dreaming of reviving the show ever since he first heard it as an album in the '70s.
