Firehouse Theatre presents the Richmond premiere of the Nu Puppis production of ONE IN FOUR, a quirky new comedy by Richmond-based actor and playwright Levi Meerovich. Nu Puppis describes their production in this way -- "Four strangers move in together and shortly come into conflict. This is natural. Each one is an alien and believes their other three roommates to be humans. This is somewhat less natural." ONE IN FOUR begins a limited run of seven performances on Thursday, April 2 at 7:30pm at Firehouse Theatre, located at 1609 W. Broad St., Richmond, VA, 23220.
The play's title ONE IN FOUR refers to a statistic that one in four people believe that aliens have visited Earth. In Meervoich's play Sid is a nebbishy alien sweatily disguised as a human male waiting excitedly to meet his three new roommates, all of whom he assumes to be human. Each one, however, is in the exact same boat as Sid- discrete other-worldly emissaries convinced of their housemates' humanity.
ONE IN FOUR premiered at Capital Fringe in Washington DC this past summer. ONE IN FOUR received five stars from DC Theatre Scene reviewer
Alan Katz who wrote, "If you are human, you should go to ONE IN FOUR to laugh at your own humanity. If you are an alien, you should go to ONE IN FOUR to see what not to do. What I'm saying is, you should go to ONE IN FOUR."
ONE IN FOUR is produced by Nu Puppis, an experimental performing arts collective that seeks to create the culture necessary for life in space through earth-bound performances. Levi Meerovich is the playwright. Connor Scully and RTCC award nominee
Mahlon Raoufi co-direct. The four member cast includes Dixon Cashwell, Rachel Hindman, Jess Rawls, and Matt Riley.
ONE IN FOUR is the latest addition to Firehouse's SEASON OF POSSIBILITIES that's been exploring the myriad choices that artists consider and commit to as they produce work. It also refers to the infinite interpretations we employ to make sense of plays and performances. POSSIBILITIES give us the ability to transcend- and who can't use a little transcendence these days?
