Firehouse Theatre is pleased to announce the performance dates of the regional premiere of The Fourth Wall by A.R. Gurney. This second show in the Firehouse Plays series is Gurney's satire on topics that include belief, faith, the American theatre, academia, political action, love, and devotion.

The plot revolves around Peggy upsetting her husband Roger's comfortable suburban life by rearranging the furniture in the living room of their comfortable suburban home. Roger enlists longtime friend Julia and an expert from the local community college to help him persuade Peggy to be sensible and put the furniture back where it belongs. A.R. Gurney is the recipient of many awards including a Drama Desk Special Award, PEN/Laura Pels International Foundation for Theater Award as a master American dramatist, and multiple Outer Critics Circle Awards.

The "fourth wall" is a foundational concept of naturalism/realism that refers to the imaginary separation between the stage and the audience. Gurney uses the fourth wall as a metaphor to consider the dissonance between what we are and what we aspire to be, and as a frame that highlights the tension between external reality and the possibility of something beyond. The play is a contemporary comedy of manners about breaking boundaries, the yearning for something different/better, and the risk of stepping through to the other side without knowing what's beyond.

The ensemble of The Fourth Wall includes RVA favorites Jaqueline Jones (Peggy), Michael Hawke (Roger), Annie Zannetti (Julia), and Landon Nagel* (Floyd). The production team includes Kerrigan Sullivan (Director), Eddie Slipek (Set Design), Andrew Bonniwell (Lighting Design), Margarette Joyner (Costume Design), Joe Carragher (Sound Design), Fran Coleman (Musical Director), Starlet Knight (Choreographer), Amber Davis (Prop Master), and Zack Owen (Stage Manger).
