On January 19, 2017 at 5:30 pm in each time zone across the country, members of the theater community - from Broadway to regional theaters to high schools and colleges and community theaters - will come together to launch The Ghostlight Project.

Members of the Richmond theatre community - actors, designers, directors, musicians, producers, playwrights and audience members - will gather at CAT Theatre to show our shared, ongoing commitment to social justice. The program will begin promptly at 5:30 - rain/snow or shine.

Please join us for this important event along with CAT's Theatre Partners CSz Richmond Theater, home of ComedySportz and African American Repertory Theatre of Virginia (AART). In addition to these Theatre Partners, our community partners are, Side By Side (sidebysideva.org; formerly ROSMY) - which is dedicated to creating supportive communities where Virginia's LGBTQ+ youth can define themselves, belong and flourish and Girls For A Change (girlsforachange.org) during the evening. Information will be available for participants to continue support of both groups in their efforts to create supporting communities for LGBTQ youth, black girls and girls of color.

Bring your own - very bright - light. We will stand with other members of the theatre community, inspired by the tradition of leaving a "ghost light" on in a darkened theater for safety, and will renew our pledge to stand for and protect the values of inclusion, participation, and compassion for everyone--regardless of race, class, religion, country of origin, immigration status, (dis)ability, gender identity, or sexual orientation.

Commitment to ongoing excellence in the theatre is our goal. Our task is to ensure that talented people from all walks of life are included, supported and celebrated. As an ongoing, visible commitment to the values of hope and solidarity and to share our light for others to see, we've chosen a single light which will remain lit in our lobby until no longer necessary. This is CAT Theater's beacon - a promise and a reminder to "BE A LIGHT" as we forge ahead.
