CenterStage has announced that legendary cabaret performer and Golden Globe Award Winner Amanda McBroom will be the final artist in the 2012-13 U.S. Trust Life is a Cabaret! Series: A Celebration of the Great American Song Book.

McBroom will perform her internationally-acclaimed show "The Rose and Other Songs of Love & Life" in CenterStage's Rhythm Hall beginning on Thursday, April 11. The show will run through Sunday, April 14.

Amanda McBroom has been called "the greatest cabaret performer of her generation, an urban poet who writes like an angel and has a voice to match." Her name first came to the attention of the music public when Bette Midler's version of Amanda's song "The Rose" hit number one all over the world in 1979.

But it was Amanda's performance of her own song at the Golden Globes (an award she won that evening), the Grammy Awards and The Tonight Show that launched her career as a singer as well as songwriter. Her songs have been recorded by the likes of Bette Midler, Leanne Rimes, Barry Manilow, Judy Collins, and Harry Belafonte, but audiences worldwide are dazzled by the best interpretations of McBroom songs - sung by McBroom herself.

The New York Times may have said it best: "Unlike so many composer-performers, Ms. McBroom is her own best interpreter. Her rich lovely alto has built-in sob that gives an extra twist of emotion to material that already carries a strong current of inspirational romanticism."

McBroom's performances at CenterStage's Rhythm Hall will round out a successful second season of the U.S. Trust Life is a Cabaret! Series, which featured performances by Richmond native Desiree Roots, rising star Tony DeSare, and pop culture icon Molly Ringwald.

"CenterStage has been incredibly fortunate to host so many world-class artists as part of our 2012-13 U.S. Trust Life is a Cabaret! Series, and my dear friend Amanda McBroom is certainly no exception," said Richard M. Parison, Jr., Richmond CenterStage Executive Director. "I have known Amanda for several years, and waited for the right opportunity to bring her to Richmond. What a treat our audiences will have as this cabaret legend rounds out our second successful cabaret season."

"The Rose and Other Songs of Love & Life" will be at CenterStage's Rhythm Hall April 11-13 at 7 p.m. with a 2 p.m. Sunday matinee on April 14. Ticket prices for the final show in the U.S. Trust Life is a Cabaret! Series are:
Lounge Seating: $25
