It's the night before Christmas...and there's a burglar in the house! Or is it someone more familiar-someone with a twinkling eye perhaps? Find out in
Barter Theatre's "Another Night Before Christmas" now playing at Barter Stage II.
Hannah Ingram and Rick McVey star in this two-person Christmas musical directed by
Eugene Wolf. As the musical opens, Karol (Ingram) is on the verge of giving up on the holidays and decides that it is much easier to close the doors against the onslaught of forced cheer and shut out everyone in her life.
Then on Christmas Eve a homeless man (McVey) appears at Karol's home and she's not convinced that he is operating with a full string of Christmas lights. The mysterious man helps her to look at what her life is like when she's not open to others . Could he be the real deal and help Karol over the holiday humbugs?
"If you choose to close your heart to one person, you might as well close it to everybody," says Director
Eugene Wolf. "This is one of the beauties of this season for me: the way these stories ring a little louder this time of year."
Ingram and McVey are joined by Musical Director
Lee Harris, who plays live piano on stage in the show.
"Another Night Before Christmas" is sponsored by CenturyLink, Universal, Richlands News Press and National Outdoor.
Barter Theatre is funded in part by the Virginia Commission for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.
Across the street at main stage, patrons can enjoy "A Christmas Story," a staged version
Jean Shepherd's classic book featuring a little boy's quest to obtain the ultimate Christmas gift, an official Red Ryder BB gun.
