The 2017-18 Season will mark Creative Cauldron's ninth year producing and presenting live theater and music at ArtSpace Falls Church. The season includes a diverse range of programming for adults and families alike.

Highlighting the season will be a world premiere musical, Witch written by internationally produced duo Stephen Gregory Smith and Matt Conner. Witch is the fourth installment of Creative Cauldron's five-year "Bold New Works for Intimate Stages" initiative. The season's theatrical offerings are complemented by live music throughout the year by two concert series: the "Passport to the World Festival" and the "Summer Cabaret Series."

Tickets are on-sale now, and can be purchased by visiting www.creativecauldron.org or calling 703-436-9948. Creative Cauldron offers two flexible season pass options for performances throughout the season.

"The resilience and resistance of the feminine spirit burns through our 2017-18 season" says Producing Director Laura Connors Hull. "We follow the journeys of women who have made difficult bargains, plucky girls who have followed their own voices, and wise elders who have been demonized for exerting their power and influence. We are excited about sharing these vivid and moving stories with our audience in our intimate venue. This is a season that will be remembered."

Creative Cauldron's 2017-18 Performance Season:

The Mistress Cycle (October 5 - October 29, 2017)

Directed by Matt Conner
Music by Jenny Giering
Book and Lyrics by Beth Blatt

Jezebel, Siren, Vixen or Enchantress? The Mistress Cycle tells the story of five women: Tess, a struggling 30-something Manhattan photographer; Anais Nin, the famed sexual adventuress of the early 20th century; Diane de Poitiers, the mistress of Henri II in France in the 16th century; Lulu White, a turn-of-the-last-century New Orleans Madame; and Ching, a 14-year-old concubine in 12th century China. Though they come from different times and cultures, they share a sisterhood. An intelligent new musical work filled with stories of passion, compromise, heartbreak and renewal.

A Little Princess, Sara Crewe (November 3 - 19, 2017)

A Learning Theater Production
Based on the children's novel by Frances Hodgson Burnet
Adapted and Directed by Laura Connors Hull
Music by Matt Conner

A sudden change of fortune leaves wealthy Sara Crewe alone and penniless in the cold of a London winter. When her friends at Miss Minchin's School for Girls turn into taunting enemies - and Miss Minchin's greedy expectations of her "star pupil" turn into bitter rage - Sara must draw upon her incredible power of imagination, her clever wit, and her brave and generous heart to sustain her. Don't miss this original musical adaptation of the beloved novel that has inspired numerous films, including the 1939 version with Miss Shirley Temple!

Madeline's Christmas (December 1 - 23, 2017)

Directed by Matt Conner
Book and lyrics by Jennifer Kirkeby
Music by Shirley Mier
Based on the Book by Ludwig Bemelmans

She's Back!! After a sold out run at the Cauldron in 2014, we welcome back everyone's favorite precocious little Parisian. "In an old house in Paris, covered in vines, lived 12 little girls in two straight lines." And with that familiar phrase, author, illustrator Ludwig Bemelmans sets in motion the adventures of the brave and resourceful Madeline! In this musical adaptation, Madeline's schoolmates and tutor are all sick in bed on Christmas Eve, unable to go home for Christmas to be with their families. So, it's Madeline to the rescue! And with the help of a magical rug merchant she takes her friends on a Christmas journey they will never forget.

Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill (February 8 - March 4, 2018)

Directed by Matt Conner
By Lanie Robertson

Helen Hayes Award Winning Actress, Iyona Blake (Caroline or Change) returns to the Cauldron to portray one of America's most iconic jazz legends. In March of 1959, Billie Holiday performed one of her final shows in a run-down bar in South Philly. "Lady Day," as she was called, turned jazz songs and standards into searching, and searing, portraits of life and love gone wrong. And this final performance wove together over a dozen of her most salty, and often humorous, numbers ("When a Woman Loves a Man," "Taint Nobody's Business If I Do," "Pig Foot and a Bottle of Beer," for a riveting portrait of the woman behind the legend.

The Snow Queen (March 9 - March 25, 2018)

A Learning Theater Production
Based on the tale by Hans Christian Andersen

Our Learning Theater Ensemble tackles Hans Christian Andersen's longest and most highly acclaimed tale that has inspired numerous films and adaptations from The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe to Disney's Frozen. This classic tale of bravery and friendship follows the journey of young Gerda as she attempts to rescue her best friend Kai from the clutches of the Snow Queen. With the help of some unique friends and a little magic Gerda is determined to break the Snow Queen's spell and melt the ice that has taken hold of Kai's heart before he is lost to her forever!

Witch (April 12 - May 6, 2018)

A Bold New Works World Premiere
Music and Lyrics by Matt Conner
Book and Lyrics by Stephen Gregory Smith

From the dawn of time, women have been demonized, feared and objectified whenever their power challenged the traditional order. Weaving a thread from the Salem Witch trials through modern day politics, this world premiere musical examines the complex and compelling stories of women who've been labeled as witches throughout the centuries. Building on their beautifully crafted productions of The Turn of the Screw, Monsters of the Villa Diodati, and Kaleidoscope, Conner and Smith bring us their next highly anticipated "Bold New Work."

Charlotte's Web (May 24 - June 17, 2018)

Adapted by Joseph Robinette
Music and lyrics by Charles Strouse
Based on the book by E.B. White

A beguiling, new musical version of the beloved classic story! With music and lyrics by Broadway composer Charles Strouse (Annie, 'Bye, 'Bye Birdie) and a book by national award-winning children's playwright Joseph Robinette, audiences will thrill to a humorous yet poignant song about growing up, an enchanting duet between Wilbur and Charlotte, and a haunting, nostalgic chorus number which evokes a time and place from everyone's childhood, plus so much more. With its lessons of friendship, loyalty and truth, Charlotte's Web is a gift for audiences of all ages.
