An ingénue with a great sense of humor. Kira is beautiful and adventurous; she is determined to help Sonny find his inspiration. A great singer who moves very well and has a facility for accents. Experience with roller skating a big plus; this character is on skates for most of the show.
Male 1: Plays Sonny Malone and others

Pop tenor with rock sound, Range: B3 – C6
A leading man with comedic chops and a great rock voice. Sonny is a frustrated artist who has lost his way. He is passionate, energetic, and lovably naïve. Experience with roller skating a plus; this character is on skates for a few musical numbers.
Male 2: Plays Danny Maguire and others
50 – 70
Tenor with jazz/swing sensibility, Range: A3 – C6
An old-school song and dance man who is equally convincing as a hard-nosed businessman and jazz musician. Danny has lost touch with his artistic spirit but finds it again with Kira and Sonny’s help. Strong comedic instincts are needed to take on other small roles. Will be required to dance, as well as skate in one number.
Female 2: Plays Melpomene and others
30+
Mezzo with belt, Range: G3 – A5
A versatile actress with a great belt and strong comedic chops. Melpomene is the villain of the piece and loves every minute of it. Great stage presence and a quick wit are required, as this actress will play additional small roles. Will be required to dance, as well as skate in one number.
Female 3: Plays Calliope and others
30+
Mezzo with belt, Range: G3 – A5
A strong comedic actress with a great voice. Calliope is Melpomene’s not-so-bright sidekick. Inventive comedic instincts are a must, as this actress will play additional small roles. Will be required to dance, as well as skate in one number.

S ince 1946, Pittsburgh CLO has been the driving force behind live musical theater in Pittsburgh and the entire Southwestern Pennsylvania region. Under the direction of Van Kaplan since 1997, this not-for-profit arts organization appreciates the support of nearly 200,000 patrons yearly who attend its performances at three venues in the Cultural District: a seasonal subscription series at the Benedum Center, A Musical Christmas Carol at the Byham Theater and year-round shows at the CLO Cabaret. Its dedication to the musical theater art form includes educational programs such as the CLO Academy for Performance and Art, the CLO Mini Stars, the Gene Kelly Awards, the Richard Rodgers Award and The National High School Theatre Awards. As part of its new works development, the organization has been involved with 22 Broadway shows (29 Tony Awards®), and in 2014 produced the world premiere of An American in Paris, on Broadway (4 Tony Awards®) and in London’s West End.
