Write Out Loud is pleased to announce auditions for multiple upcoming performance opportunities:
Story Concerts
TwainFest
PoeFest
We seek actors of ALL ages, cultures, colors, sizes, identities – come as you are, and show us your best self. We employ roughly 40 – 75 actors per year in a variety of performances and events. This audition is to expand our casting database, as our programming grows and we have opportunity to hire even more actors.
All performers are paid.
We are especially interested in LOCAL San Diego actors. We cannot provide housing for out of town actors. If you are from out of town and can provide your own transportation and/or housing, we are happy to consider you. We are seeking bi-lingual actors at this time, comfortable performing in English and Spanish. Other languages also welcome for future programming, and if you are monolingual, we still want to see you!
Because our programming is a bit unique, please find descriptions of the various events at the bottom of the notice.

WHAT TO PREPARE
Something MEMORIZED and something READ
Please prepare a one-minute monologue of your choice. The more elevated the language the better, as all of our programming revolves around literature, but please select material you feel plays to your strengths.
Please also select one of the passages from the link below to READ. We encourage you to prepare your reading (vs cold read), but please do not memorize it, as much of our programming is specifically meant to be read. Further suggestions for how to prepare reading material included at the bottom of the reading options page.

DESCRIPTIONS OF WHAT WE DO
Story Concerts – One-night rehearsed readings of literature (short stories, excerpts from longer pieces, poetry, sometimes music). Time commitment is generally one rehearsal per story the actor is involved in, and the performance event. Pay is $125.
TwainFest – Full-day Festival of Literature, held outdoors at Heritage County Park, geared towards families. Actors perform in 12-minute performance events between 3 and 5 times over the day. Some events are performed on-book as lightly-staged readings, some are fully memorized and staged. All events involve some degree of audience interaction/ participation. Time commitment is generally between one and two rehearsals, depending on the needs of the event, one costume fitting, and the full day of performance. Lunch is provided. Pay is between $125 - $250. Improvisational skills are a plus.
PoeFest – An immersive, site-specific “literary haunted house” event, held at the historic Villa Montezuma Museum. Actors perform in 12-minute performance events for rotations of audience participants. These are fully memorized, fully staged, and include a large amount of audience interaction/ participation/ direct address and engagement. There are also a number of “Host” tracks available, which will lead the groups of audience through the home, may be involved (briefly) in the performances, and will facilitate basic tech needs for the performances. Time Commitment is generally a total of 3 – 5 rehearsals (including tech and preview), depending on the needs of the track/ event, one costume fitting, and 2 – 3 weekends of performance. These are performed in rotating rep, so each weekend will include 2 – 3 days of performance. Pay is $650 for the full run. Improvisation skills are a must.
