WOYZECK by Georg Büchner Directed by Jaymie Bellous AUDITIONS: Sunday, September 2nd, 2012 - 11am to 6pm BY APPOINTMENT—Location TBA Actors are asked to bring a headshot and resume.
Please prepare a 1-2 minute monologue: any style or period is acceptable. If you play a musical instrument please bring it and prepare a short song to play.
CLOWNS, please arrive in white face and nose, and have a short solo act prepared. A CD/MP3 player will be available to you. You may also perform a monologue, if you would also like to be considered for a non-clown role.
CHARACTER BREAKDOWN:
Woyzeck: a poor, lowly solider and human lab rat. His diet of only peas leaves him prey to superstition and irrational fear;
Marie: Woyzeck’s common-law wife and the mother of his son. A sweet woman with a wild side;
Drum Major: The sexy and powerful leader of the military drum corps, who seduces Marie;
Andres: Woyzeck’s best friend, also a soldier. A simple man, who is aware of Woyzeck’s madness*
Doctor: A mad scientist, who subjects Woyzeck to strange and unethical medical experiments*
Captain: Woyzeck’s superior in the army; a manipulative man, who toys with Woyzeck’s head*
Margaret: Marie’s brassy neighbor, who also has an eye for the Drum Major*
Clowns: (2) Will serve as a silent chorus performing clown acts between scenes and taking on all the “extra” roles.
*Will double as other roles including: Katie, Grandmother, The Showman, The Sergeant, The Pawnbroker, The Inn Keeper, and two Journeymen.
Note: Some male roles will be played by women, and some female roles will be played by men.
REHEARSALS: Rehearsals will begin September 28th, and will typically run Monday through Friday evenings and Saturday afternoons.
PERFORMANCES: Fridays – Sundays, November 2nd -18th At the Lounge Theatre in Hollywood Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm, Sundays at 2pm The Illyrian Players Theatre Co. is a non-union theatre and does not pay.
