SHOW SYNOPSIS

Two cops. Three crooks. Eight doors. Go. In a cheap motel room, an embezzling mayor is supposed to meet with his female accountant, while in the room next-door, two undercover cops wait to catch the meeting on videotape. But there’s some confusion as to who’s in which room, who’s being videotaped, who’s taken the money, who’s hired a hit man, and why the accountant keeps taking off her clothes.

“Unnecessary Farce” is produced by special arrangement with Playscripts, Inc. (

AUDITION REQUIREMENT

· Please read the script prior to auditioning (you may reach out to EDP regarding checking out a script). You should feel confident in your ability to conduct the extensive physical comedy required.

· Some roles will require actors to be on stage in their undergarments (boxer shorts, slips).

· Some roles require light intimacy with others onstage (hugging, kissing)

Monologue: Be prepared with a COMIC monologue MAXIMUM of 2 minutes where you simultaneously show *simple * movements - such as playing hopscotch or rearranging chairs. (Although we enjoy interpretive dance, that kind of complexity is not necessary.)

Headshot and Resume: Please bring one copy of each. The headshot does not need to be professionally made – a print out of a selfie will suffice.

CASTING

We are casting 7 actors: 2 male-identifying roles, 3 female-identifying roles, and 2 roles that are not gender-specific.

Non-traditional casting is encouraged. Actors of all ethnicity, gender, identity, and ability are encouraged to audition.

ERIC SHERIDAN: Male. 30’s. Local police officer. A bit of a social nerd. Uncomfortable sharing his feelings and emotions.

BILLIE DWYER: Female. 30’s. Local police officer. Excitable. Reactionary. High energy. Eager to please.

KAREN BROWN: Female. 30’s. Accountant. Tries to be professional at all times, but unable to control her yearning for ERIC.

MAYOR MEEKLY: Male. 50-70. Innocent. A tad naive. Sweet. Not the sharpest tack in the tool belt.

AGENT FRANK: Male or Female. 25-50. Head of security at Town Hall. Tries to be tough and crusty, but actually insecure and fearful.

TODD: Male or Female. 30-50. A professional hit man quick to lose his cool. Person of few words. Requires a Scottish accent.

MARY MEEKLY: Female. 50-70. Sweet. Meek. Perfect match for her husband MAYOR MEEKLY, but harbors a deep secret. Scottish accent required.
