The show will be directed by Harry Wong III and runs June 10 – 27, 2021. Both the auditions and performances for this production will be held live, online. Show description: In the 2010s the construction of a 30-meter telescope on Mauna Kea was announced. Author Susan Stanton uses theatre to investigate the issues surrounding the TMT protests. Dramatizing the controversial Thirty Meter Telescope, Untitled TMT Projectexplores the intersections of the sacred, science, government, capitalism, and tradition. This play draws inspiration from interviews with kia‘i, government officials, activists, scientists, and community members, as well as visits to Pu‘uhonua o Pu‘uhuluhulu Maunakea and observatories. Weaving together hula and oli, original narrative, interviews, and news reports, Untitled TMT Project creates a theatrical space where many different voices and truths can coexist. Untitled TMT Project demonstrates a 360° view of the complex cultural and political forces that shape Hawai‘i. Director Harry Wong III is looking for actors to fill the following roles: Aunty Val – elementary school teacher in Waimea in her 60’s. Annie – Kama‘aina woman, now living in Seattle, early 30’s. Kiana – Hawaiian woman, from O‘ahu now living on Hawai‘i island, early 30’s. Kahu – Hawaiian priest. Reggie – Astrophysicist, African American in his 30’s. Ikaika – Hawaiian/local telescope worker, late 20’s, from Hawai‘i island. Dr. Thorbeck – Director of Keck II, haole astrophysicist now living on Hawai‘i island, in his 50’s. George – telescope operator. Paul – Hawaiian/local scientist, in his 40’s. Kupuna (ensemble and individual) Joe – Legal aid, 20’s, Colorado. Brendan – kia‘i from O‘ahu (protector) Pomai – Hawai‘i Island kia‘i Kai – Vocal kia‘i Billy – Kupuna kia‘i Gov David Ige Lt. Gov Josh Green Sondra – Hawaiian/local kia‘i and hula dancer Jade - Hawaiian/local kia‘i and hula dancer Mary Tina – Haole Hawaiian historian, early 30’s. Susan Soon He Stanton is a writer/producer for Succession [HBO], for which she has also won WGA and Peabody Awards. She is a Sundance Theater Lab Resident Playwright and was awarded Leah Ryan FEWW, the Venturous Playwrights Fellowship at the Lark, and is a member of New Dramatists and MaYi’s Playwright’s Lab, and was an alumni of Primary Stage’s Dorothy Strelsin New American Writers Group, the Public’s Emerging Writer’s Group, and SoHo Rep’s Writer Director Lab. Commissions include Yale Repertory, American Conservatory Theater/Crowded Fire, South Coast Repertory, and Ensemble Studio Theatre, Kumu Kahua among others. In film, she received a Feature Film Development Grant from the Sloan Foundation. Her film Dress won the audience award at the Hawaii International Film Festival.
