The Players at the Barker Playhouse presents TIME STANDS STILL by Donald Marguilies
In Donald Margulies play, TIME STANDS STILL, two journalists who have covered wars in the Middle East for a long time, come to grips with their professional and personal lives and the constant re-definition of morality. At it's core, this is a love story set in the turbulent times and stress laden lives of JAMES (a principled war correspondent recovering from an emotional breakdown brought on by over exposure to the brutality of endless, armed conflict) and SARAH (a top photojournalist recovering from injuries sustained in a roadside bombing in Iraq.)
Back in NYC, they struggle to redefine both their relationship and their roles as journalists in the never ending carnage of war. Unlike photography, in which the click of the camera freezes an event and TIME STANDS STILL, relationships never stand still.
Enter good friend, editor and mentor RICHARD and his very, very young and attractive new girlfriend MANDY. They are happily engaged in creating their own, new life together far from the strife of battle.
This unseemly quartet share and reshape the framework of their lives in this well crafted play.
"In Donald Margulies' plat, Time Stands Still, art and life often bump together fractiously. He's most interested in the friction that results when artistic imperatives vie with friends, lovers and the seductive pull of normalcy....This is an intelligent, perceptive, often funny, sometimes surprising, and always compelling piece of writing." Paul Hodgins, Orange County Register.
