Opera Mariposa and the Mariposa Theatre Wing are seeking diverse performers for This Is Me, a Benefit + Awareness Show directed by Robin Hahn and music directed by Maria Hwa Yeong Jung. This staged musical theatre revue weaves together Broadway hits in a unique exploration of the dis/ability experience, presented by a disability-led company. The performance aims to showcase artists from traditionally underrepresented communities – including not only those with disabilities, but with diverse genders, orientations, cultural backgrounds and more. Please note that while artists are welcome to share how they identify with us, public disclosure is not a requirement for participation.
We're seeking up to 12 soloist and ensemble singers, though artists with other talents such as dance and movement are also encouraged to apply. All performers will receive honoraria, as well as rich media assets such as professional photos and performance video. This Is Me will be presented in partnership with the ME|FM Society of BC, a registered Canadian charity, and is made possible with the generous support of Creative BC and the City of Vancouver.
For your audition, we ask that you bring two contrasting pieces from the musical theatre repertoire (uptempo and ballad), though please be aware you may not be asked to sing both in their entirety. If you do not have two musical theatre pieces, we will also accept classical songs or popular music that showcases your voice.
Please arrive 15-20 minutes early for your audition time, and bring a clean copy of your sheet music and hard copies of your headshot and resume. A pianist will be provided.
We ask that auditioners please refrain from wearing fragrances, in order to help us maintain a scent-reduced space. If you have any accessibility needs or require accommodations in order to participate in the audition process, please don't hesitate to contact us. We look forward to hearing from you!
