Charm City Players will be holding auditions for its upcoming show The Wizard of Oz at St. Timothy's School, 8400 Greenspring Ave., Stevenson, MD 21153 on the following dates:

Dorothy Gale (must be between the ages of 12-19) – “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”
Scarecrow/Hunk - “If I Only had a Brain”
Tinman/Hickory - “If I Only had a Heart”
Lion/Zeke - “If I Were King of the Forest”
Glinda - “Munchkinland”
Aunt Em - none
Witch/Ms. Gultch - None
Wizard/Professor Marvel/Gate Keeper – Solo part of the “Merry Old Land of Oz”
Chorus - “Merry Old Land of Oz” - No reading or Solo singing is required of the Chorus. You will audition as a group.
After singing auditions, those trying out for principal roles will be asked to read several short scenes.
Principal & Adult Character Requirements:
Dorothy Gale: The role of Dorothy will be cast with someone between the ages of 12 to 19.
ONLY young ladies over the age of 12 that are the right height, weight and have the look of the Judy Garland character from the MGM movie will be considered. If you are chosen and your hair color is not a medium to dark brown, then you will be required to color your hair for the role. No wigs will be used for the performances.
Scarecrow/Hunk (good dancer, strong singer)
Tinman/Hickory (good dancer, strong singer)
Lion/Zeke (some dancing experience needed, strong singer)
Glinda, the Good Witch of the North (sweet nature, singer)
Aunt Em (older woman, motherly)
Wicked Witch of the West/Miss Almira Gultch (vocal quality as that in the movie,
must be able to ride bike and make exit in trap door)
The Wizard of Oz/Professor Marvel/Gate Keeper (powerful booming voice for Wizard, Grandfatherly image for Professor Marvel, needs the vocal quality as in the movie for Gate Keeper)
Uncle Henry (fatherly image to Dorothy)
Trees (3-4 Total – Older teens and adults, must have the vocal qualities as that in the movie)
Snow-Poppy Dancers (6 to 8 teens and older will be cast for these roles, ballet background needed)
Winkie Soldiers (10 to 12 needed, Must be able to chant and march)
Ozians (male and female citizens of Oz, 20 needed, some to double as Winkie Soldiers)
Glinda’s Chorus - Female Chorus (15 to 20 needed, must be able to sing parts)
Munchkin CHORUS - “Ding Dong the Witch is Dead!”
You may be asked to Dance or Move (in groups) immediately following group singing.
After the singing and dancing/movement auditions, those trying out for specific Munchkin roles will be asked to recite the Mayor and Barristers lines in the song “Ding Dong the Witch is Dead.”

Barrister (Male or Female - must be able to talk rhythmically and have vocal qualities as in the movie)
Coroner (Male or Female - must be able to talk rhythmically with the vocal qualities in the movie)
City Fathers – 3 Males (must be able to talk rhythmically with the vocal qualities in the movie)
Braggart (Must be able to talk rhythmically and have the vocal qualities as in the movie)
Lollipop Guild – 3 Males (Must be able to sing and have the vocal qualities as in the movie,
they must move together in rhythm)
Lullaby League – 3 Females (Must be able to sing and have the vocal qualities as in the movie,
must have a ballet background)
Crows – 3 Total (Male or Female) pre-teens will be cast in these roles, must be able to dance & sing)
Flying Monkeys Act II Only (Double as Munchkins in Act I). (Must be under 4.6' and be able to move well as a group and sing. Must be able to follow directions well).
Nikko (Commander of the Flying Monkeys, must be a good pantomime and have a unique squeal vocalization gibberish of the spoken word)
Trees (3-4 Total – Older teens and adults, must have the vocal qualities as that in the movie)
Snow-Poppy Dancers (6 to 8 teens and older will be cast for these roles, ballet background needed)
About Rehearsals:
Most of the rehearsals will be from 7:00 – 9:00 pm on Monday, Wednesdays, Thursdays and 1:00 – 4:00 pm on Sundays. Not everyone will be due at all rehearsals. During tech week we will strive to end rehearsals by 10:00 PM.
A detailed rehearsal schedule will be available at the audition.
