Production Description:
The Sleepover is an online, interactive production that will explore female gatherings through the container concept of a slumber party. This is part two of a larger project; in part one, we invited women to share art & memories from their lived experiences with female gatherings and these offerings may serve as source material for the production. Actor-devisers will be asked to create work based on multiple stimuli, including their own relationship (or lack thereof) to female gatherings.
The Sleepover will be developed through a collaborative creation process supported by a directing team, stage manager, and dramaturg.
Roles:
5 Actor-Devisers
Female-identifying
Age Range: 18-40
Must have free access to a computer, a dependable internet connection, and a quiet/private space for rehearsals and performances
Must be local to the Greater Baltimore area
Must be comfortable unpacking & exploring issues related and adjacent to gender
Must be comfortable with the inherent uncertainty and deep collaboration required for a successful collaborative theatremaking process as well as the prospect of immersive, interactive online theatre
While props and costume pieces will be provided, actors may be asked to utilize certain pieces of their environment or wardrobe during the production (as appropriate).
While devising experience is preferred, actors with no devising experience and a secondary artistic practice such as creative writing, music composition, or choreography are also encouraged to submit.
Actors with disabilities and actors of the global majority are especially encouraged to submit.
Payment:
Actor-devisers will be paid a stipend of $1000 at the conclusion of the production. They will also receive one complimentary ticket (limited due to the intentionally small audience size for this production).
Production Schedule:
Rehearsals ONLINE 3 times per week during evenings and weekends September 5-November 10th, with scheduled break for scripting and revising; IN-PERSON ensemble-building sessions to be scheduled based on cast availability and CDC guidance.
Performances ONLINE (15): all at 8pm EST; November 11, 12, 13, 18, 19, 20 & December 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, 16, 17, 18
