Provincetown Theater Holds Open Auditions for summer-long run of The Rocky Horror Show

O???????n the first weekend of February, the Provincetown Theater will hold open auditions for non-union performers for its upcoming 2024 production of Richard O’Brien’s cult rock-n-roll musical The Rocky Horror Show. Helmed by the company’s artistic director, David Drake, with musical direction by John Thomas, Rocky Horror will play for a summer-long run beginning in July 15 - Sep 5.

Auditions will take place at the Provincetown Theater, 238 Bradford Street, Provincetown, MA 02657. Age range for actors in each show varies from (potentially) late teens to early 60s. The creative team is especially seeking and encouraging BIPOC performers, as well as trans and non-binary performers to audition. Zoom auditions available upon request; to arrange an appointment, please write to: operations@provincetowntheater.org. Performance stipends are budgeted for all performers in both productions.

AUDITIONS for The Rocky Horror Show are on February 2 & 3. Friday from 6-9pm, and Saturday from 4-6pm.

Performers will be seen on a first come/first serve basis. Please prepare two rock songs (ballad and up-tempo) and bring your own sheet music in the proper key. Songs from the show are encouraged. Accompanist is provided. Sides from script available at Provincetown Theater starting January 22, and are also provided at auditions. NOTE: PLEASE DO NOT come to auditions in costume.

ROLES:

Like the cult classic film, all the same famous characters are in the stage show: Aliens - Frank-n-Furter, Riff Raff, Magenta, Columbia. Earthlings - Brad, Janet, Eddie/Doctor. Constructed Man – Rocky. A cast of 7-9 performers are needed, ages 18 – 40s. All performers sing major rock and roll in the show, and all have the ability to make a star-turn whenever necessary.

MALE-IDENTIFYING ROLES:

FRANK ‘N’ FURTER: Male, 30-45 (Range: Baritone, D3-G4) Master of the castle. Sexy transvestite alien from Outer Space. A powerful seducer with the vocal dexterity of Freddy Mercury. Welcomes Janet and Brad with open arms. Obsessed with creating a man to be part of his sexual entourage.

BRAD: Male, 23-35 (Range: Bari Tenor, Bb2-G4) Quirky, uptight Earthling fellow, very much in love with his fiancé, Janet. Overly optimistic at times. A gentleman; a square.

ROCKY: Male 18-30 (Range: Tenor, A3-G4) Frank’s magnificent creation. Sexually appealing with prominent muscles and should be comfortable in wearing very little clothing. Just seven hours old.

RIFF RAFF: Male, 25-40 (Range: High Rock Tenor, D3-B4) Alien from Outer Space. One of Frank’s servants. Brother of Magenta. Often makes harmless conversation seem awkward and foreboding. Leads the Time Warp.

EDDIE/DR. SCOTT: Male or Female 28-40 (Range: Baritone, E3-F#4) Eddie, delivery man, “went to pieces.” Comes back to life only to die after his solo. Scott is Eddie’s Uncle, former professor to Brad and Janet.

FEMALE -IDENTIFYING ROLES:

JANET: Female, 23-35 (Range: Mezzo Soprano Belt, A3-Eb5) Good Earthling girl who is madly in love with Brad. Always seems to be frightened of something. Keeps losing more of her clothes throughout the story. Emotionally fragile and caves into pressure easily, turning her into an alley cat.

MAGENTA: Female, 25-40 (Range: Mezzo Belt, Bb3-Eb5) Alien from Outer Space. Sneaky, seductive, one of Frank’s servants. Sister to Riff Raff. One of the leaders in Time Warp.

COLUMBIA: Female, Age Flexible (Range: Mezzo Soprano Belt, E4-E5) One of Frank’s servants. Used to date Eddie and Frank. A surprisingly sensitive person. Leader in Time Warp. Tap skills a plus!

The Rocky Horror Show will begin rehearsals the first week of June (in accommodation with actors work schedules) and continue thru to production opening on July 15. Production is set for a two-month run (Mon - Thurs) to Sept 5. A summer-long commitment, non-union performers will receive a rehearsal honorarium in addition to a weekly performance salary of $250. a week.
