Seeking AEA and NON AEA Artists.

THE STORY: David arrives in Poland with a crippling case of writer’s block and a desire to be left alone. His seventy-five-year-old second cousin Maria welcomes him with a fervent need to connect with her distant American family. As their tenuous relationship develops, she reveals details about her complicated post-war past that test their ideas of what it means to be a family.


David-
The author looking for the solitude and inspiration to revise his book. Late 20s/early 30s, 130-something pound introverted pot head. His intellect and wit often go over peoples' heads when they speak the same language, so some of his snark (and charm) is missed by his 75 year old Polish second cousin. He is looking for a pause from life and a purpose for it.


Maria-
David's 75 year old, Polish speaking, Jewish cousin. She is spry for 75, and full of energy and opinions - especially with family visiting, finally! Having survived much tragedy in her life, Maria clings to the family she never sees, but knows intimately. Her small apartment is a shrine to her family. She knows all of their names and their stories. She lives alone, and quietly, and seeks the love and companionship that family brings, which has long been denied to her. Will speak Polish in production.


Zenon-
50s. Even early 60s. A bear of a man! Friend to Maria, and only speaks Polish. Zenon does not suffer fools. He will drink shots of vodka at anytime of day because, well, why wouldn't he. He does errands for Maria, and also shaves her legs, because it reminds him of his dead mother. He doesn't have much interest in or patience for David.
