Peace Lily Theatre is doing the first round of casting for a semi-musical theatre adaptation of the Mayor of Casterbridge.
Open Auditions will be held in the Cypress Room on the third floor of the Orlando Public Library from 9:30 AM to 12:30 AM on the 27th of May.
A short promotional video will be filmed for fundraising in late May/early June.
Cast must be available for rehearsals for five days a week starting in early July during evenings or afternoons, and up to 7 during the final week or two weeks leading up to the performance.
Performances will be in mid August.
Actors auditioning will be asked to perform short cuttings from the play and 30 seconds of a song of their choice if one is not listed alongside their character. Otherwise, they will be expected to perform the lyrical excerpts posted below with the accompanying sample accompaniment.
Cast:
Michael Henchard - A man whose strong humors are limited by an intermittent conscience.
Susan Henchard - A single minded woman who carries a hidden intuition.
Elizabeth-Jane - A young woman who strives to become more cultured, but who is left in unknowing naivety by the people around her, despite her intelligence.
Donald Farfrae - A young, ambitious Scotsman who naively trusts Michael and is ignorant towards his change to a darker nature.
The Auctioneer - The Woman in White - Conspirator in suffering. Lacking impartiality she straddle the line between participant, force, and narrator. As an auctioneer, she is cuttingly professional but carries an air of dispassion.
The Furmity Cook - The Man in Black - Co-narrator.
