THE MAD KING LEAR is the story of an aged king, whose mounting insanity and bouts of uncontrolled rage, cost him first the only daughter who truly loves him, then his kingdom, his pride, his loyal friends, and finally his life. Lear is a masterful meditation on the human capacity for injustice, greed, and cruelty, but through it, Shakespeare demonstrates how every one of us possesses the capacity for endurance, introspection, empathy, and ultimately grace.
