AUDITION DATES

Thursday, October 10 between 6:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. AND
Friday, October 11 between 6:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.

CALLBACKS will be on Sunday, October 13 between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m if necessary

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN

All characters are intended to be played by Black actors.

MARGARET ALEXANDER- Late 40s-50s,

Sister Margaret is pastor of a storefront church in Harlem in the 1960s. She struggles with her feelings for her husband and son, and the congregation's perception of her religious convictions

LUKE- Late 40s-50s,

Sister Margaret's long-estranged husband who returns after many years, now ill. He claims to have changed,

DAVID - 18 yrs old

Margaret's son who wants to see his father but has lost his faith and threatens to leave home.

ODESSA- Late 30s-early 40s

Margaret's sister who lives with Margaret and David. She is supportive of Margaret and defends her against the criticism of the congregation.

SISTER MOORE- Late 50s-60s

One of the three elders of Sister Margaret's church who is instrumental in having her ousted from her position as pastor.

IDA JACKSON- Early 20s

A troubled young woman with a sick baby. She seeks emotional and spiritual support from Sister Margaret.

SISTER BOXER – Late 50s-60s

One of the elders of Sister Margaret’s church. Part of Sister Moore’s “amen corner”. Married to Brother Boxer.

BROTHER BOXER – Late 50s-60s

One of the elders of Sister Margaret’s church. Part of Sister Moore’s “amen corner. Married to Sister Boxer.

MEMBERS OF THE CONGREGATION – Early 20s-60’s

Members who makes up the amen corner in Sister Margaret’s church.

WHAT TO PREPARE

ACTORS

Please prepare a 2–3 minute dramatic monologue

Actors maybe asked to sing.

MEMBERS OF THE CONGREGATION

Vocals voices Soprano, Alto, Tenor, and Bass are needed for this production

Prepare to sing twelve measures of a song of your choice. Preferable a Gospel piece (But no requirement)

Musical training will be a asset (But not a requirement)

Singers will be asked to sing with others on call back.

Music Director will select and teach the music for call back
