The Earl and Rachel Smith Strand Theatre is casting the musical, “The 1940’s Radio Hour. Roles available for ages 18-99, all ethnicities, all genders.

Full of classic 40’s music, dancing, and old-time sound, this production portrays the final holiday broadcast of the Mutual Manhattan Variety Cavalcade on a NYC December night.


AUDITION DETAILS

Video submissions must be submitted by Sunday, September 24 by 10:00pm.

Auditions will be by video submission only. Callbacks will be in person.

VIDEO REQUIREMENTS
Your video audition should include:

– Two (2) contrasting one minute monologues. One should be comedic and one can be the genre of your choice.

– Two (2) contrasting one minute songs. If you are auditioning for a non-singing role, you can skip this part.

ROLES

ROLES: Ages 18-99 | All ethnicities | All genders

CLIFTON A. FEDDINGTON | Male. Age 30-40. Range C3-C4. All Ethnicities
Producer, announcer, and head of everything at WOZ, we see him in various states of hysteria, a real cheapskate, a very genuine and vulnerable, he is like Jimmy Stewart with a mic style like a young Bob Hope.

ANN COLLIER/GENEVA LEE BROWN | Female. Age 18-45. F3-D5. Dancing role. All Ethnicities.
The ‘old standard’ in the Radio show since its start in 1936, she sings like Dinah Shore, Doris Day, and Peggy Lee (all rolled into one). She is a secretary by day who is dating Johnny, has a Ginger Rogers style dance number. Piano playing skills a plus.

CONNIE MILLER | Female. Age 18-24. A4-D5. Dancing role. All Ethnicities.
A 22-year-old bobbysoxer from Ogden, Utah, she is perennially in love and runs an elevator by day, needs to be able to tap, also has a “Jitterbug” number.

GINGER BROOKS | Female. Age 20-35. F3-C5. All Ethnicities.
A bubble-headed waitress turned star, caricatured but the parody is her own, leads with her lower lip like Betty Boop, pin-up look, she rehearses in a slip, chews gum and holds it while performing, her make-up is as important as the war.

JOHNNY CANTONE | Age 30-40. A3-D4. All Ethnicities.
Featured vocalist with WOV who is on Sinatra’s band wagon, from Brooklyn. Ex-welterweight boxer, smarmy, but as much of a punk as he is, he is also sweet and vulnerable, a tough guy to protect himself, voice like velvet.

NEAL TILDEN | Male. Age 18-35. C#3-D4. All Ethnicities.
Comic cab driver by day and aspiring showbiz star, he is hopeful for a ‘featured vocalist’ slot, resident cry-baby.

LOU COHN | All Genders. Age 40-45. Non-singing role. All Ethnicities.
Company stage manager and has no ambitions to be anything else, is perfectly content with a job that has plenty of authority and no responsibility, keeps four or five conversations going at once, runs the show and is the sound effects person, piano playing skills a plus.

‘POPS’ BAILEY | Male. Age 60-99. Non-singing role. All Ethnicities.
A crotchety, wizened stage doorkeeper who is a racing bookie on the company phone and reads hidden copies of Show Girl magazine.

BJ GIBSON/BIFF | Male. 18-24. Bb3-D4. Dancing role. All Ethnicities.
The third of the Gibson brothers to work for the Cavalcade, he is squeaky-clean and good looking, needs to be able to tap, also has a “jitterbug” number.

WALLY/STANLEY | All Genders. Age 18-25. All Ethnicities.
Tenor/baritone or mezzo alto, poodle-eyed young hopeful from Altoona, Pennsylvania who came to NYC to work for their uncle at the drugstore to get their big show-biz break, in love with them as soon as you meet them, tries really hard but screws up everything they are a part of.
