TENDER HOOKS by Julie Jensen, directed by Fran Pruyn, runs October 4 – 19, 2024. Rehearsals begin September 3rd.

THE SYNOPSIS

A family with five children (each with a different physical deformity) has moved next door to LA PRIEL. She is both frightened and preoccupied by them. We are looking at a class system at work in the most unlikely place.

THE CHARACTERS

LA PRIEL (pronounced La PREEL) A woman in her mid-sixties, precise, orderly, quiet, nervous, frightened, a piano teacher by trade. THIS ROLE IS CAST.

MARGERY - LaPriel's older sister, also in her mid-sixties. Rather heavy and slow, a master of folk wisdom which she dispenses freely.

LETHA (pronounced LEEtha) A tall, lanky eleven-year-old girl. Bright in her own way energetic, disarming. She has only three fingers on her right hand, easily accomplished by taping the ring finger over the little finger. This role may be played by an adult.

MRS. HICKS....A neighbor. The mother of five children, including Letha. In her thirties but looks older than her years. Direct and slow of speech, she seems both threatening and seductive.

THE FIELD IS RIPE by Morag Shepherd, directed by Tamara Howell, runs February 22 – March 9, 2025. Rehearsals begin approximately January 22nd.

THE SYNOPSIS

Sister Garcia and sister Roberts are companions in San Diego, California in 2005. The entire play takes place in their missionary apartment, where we see their relationship evolve, devolve, and erupt as they wrestle with the confines of the rules, and determine their relationship with food, fasting, and God.

THE CHARACTERS

SISTER GARCIA (MARY) - early twenties - has been on her mission for three months and has found abnormal success. People flock to her because she is effortlessly cool and doesn’t ever try too hard. Garcia is impulsive and doesn’t spend any time thinking about the significance of an action before it happens. Things come easily, they go easily, and she doesn’t let it sit heavy. She says shocking things very matter of fact. By the end of the play, she reveals she is pregnant. This should be a slow reveal throughout the play and shouldn’t be played from the beginning. Garcia is older than Roberts by a couple of years.

SISTER ROBERTS (KENZIE) - early twenties, is as fresh as a daisy. She cares about doing what she is supposed to do and is struggling to get a baptism. She has been on her mission for over a year and is obsessive and desperate about rules, writing things down, and the letter of the law.

Roberts is completely and utterly fascinated with sister Garcia and hangs on her every word. Maybe she is in love with her, but she doesn’t let herself in on it. Everything she says and does is guided by this.

BE HERE NOW by Deborah Laufer, directed by Jason Bowcutt, runs May 2 – May 28. Rehearsals begin Approximately April 1.

THE SYNOPSIS

Bari’s always been a bit of an angry, depressed misanthrope. And losing her job teaching nihilism in New York to work at the local fulfillment center in her rural hometown has sent her into despair. But lately her recurring headaches manifest bizarre, ecstatic, almost religious experiences, and they’re changing her entire view of life. She’s in love. She’s almost… happy. When she finds out they’re also killing her, she must decide whether it’s better to live a short, joyful life, or risk a lifetime of misery. And she must also ask herself… what’s it all for anyway?

THE CHARACTERS

BARI – (40s – 60s) A depressed, nihilistic misanthrope who undergoes a radical transformation.

PATTY COOPER (40s – 60s) Loud and controlling and good hearted. Has never left her hometown of East Cooperville.

LUANNE COOPER (20) Patty’s niece. Very simple and sweet. Hungry for joy and meaning.

MIKE COOPER (40s – 60s) Patty’s cousin. Mike makes beautiful art out of garbage – that’s who he is. He has a crow.
