MISS WITHERSPOON
Veronic- smart but worried woman, mid-forties to late fifties. Her nickname, we learn is Miss Witherspoon
Maryamma- spirit guide in the netherworld. She can be any age; but she is intelligent and has grace of movement and loveliness of spirit. She is written as Indian (from India) but would entertain other interpretations of the role. No change in the lines will be permitted.
Mother 1/Mother 2- played by same actress. Both in their 30s or early 40s. Mother 1 is upper east side or Connecticut type. Well to do. Mother 2 is drug addict. Cranky
Father 1/ Father 2/Sleazy Man, Dog Owner/ Soothing Voice and Wise Man- Father 1 Well to do Upper East Side or Connecticut. Father 2 Hell's Angel type, drug addict. Other parts are somewhat self explanatory.
Teacher/ Woman in Hat-Teacher- 40s to 50s African-American. Good teacher/Visitor from the netherworld.
THE ACTOR'S NIGHTMARE
George Spelvin- 30s or early 40s. Thinks he is an accountant but somehow he stumbles into the theatre
Meg- 20s or 30s Stage Manager. Trying to hold the show together
Sarah Siddons- 40s or early 50s. Grand actress. Performs a bit of Private Lives, Hamlet and Man for all Seasons
Ellen Terry- 20s, 30s or early 40s. Does Beckett, and Private Lives.
Henry Irving- 40s or 50s Grand Actor. Performs Hamlet, Man for All Seasons.
