The REP announces Equity Principal auditions for The Scottsboro Boys

The REP, Point Park University’s professional theatre company, is accepting Equity Principal auditions by appointment for the production of Scottsboro Boys by David Thompson, John Kander & Fred Ebb.

Tomé Cousin will direct Scottsboro Boys with musical direction by Douglas Levine and choreography by Jeremy Czarniak.

Appointments will be accepted from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesday, April 26, 2017, at Point Park University’s Pittsburgh Playhouse, 222 Craft Ave. Scottsboro Boys runs Runs September 7 – 24, 2017. The first rehearsal will be August 8, 2017.

Cast members will receive a weekly salary of $352.

Seeking 12 men and 1 woman:

INTERLOCUTOR (Male)

The Caucasian host of the minstrel show and narrator of our story. Confident and always a smile on his face, he constantly talks to the Boys to keep control of the show. Doublings include JUDGE and GOVERNOR OF ALABAMA.

MR. BONES (Male)

A minstrel show entertainer. Over-the-top and very characterized. Doublings include SHERIFF BONES, LAWYER BONES, and GUARD BONES.

Vocal range top: E4, Vocal range bottom: Ab2

MR. TAMBO (Male)

A minstrel show entertainer always ready with a punchline. Over-the-top and very characterized. Doublings include DEPUTY TAMBO, LAWYER TAMBO, and SAMUEL LEIBOWITZ.

THE LADY (Female)

A woman in 1955 waiting for the bus after a long day of work. Her memories trigger a retelling of the Scottsboro Boys story, and elicits occasional participation.

ANDY WRIGHT (Male)

A Scottsboro Boy and Roy's stubborn older brother. He's looking for river work to make money for his mother and sister, despite being illiterate.

EUGENE WILLIAMS (Male)

A Scottsboro Boy heading for Memphis, he is sneaking away from his home in Atlanta with a pet frog. The youngest boy of the group. He is the most emotionally vulnerable and suffers from nightmares in jail. Doubling as LITTLE GEORGE.

HAYWOOD PATTERSON (Male)

A Scottsboro Boy. Leaving strong kin in Chattanooga to head to Memphis. Plans to travel and see the world, while looking for work. A natural leader committed to finding the truth and refusing to give in to the demands of white superiors.

CLARENCE NORRIS (Male)

A Scottsboro Boy traveling to Memphis to begin work on a river barge. He is fed up waiting for handouts, vocal and frustrated with a short-fused temper. Doubling as PREACHER.

WILLIE ROBBERSON (Male)

A Scottsboro Boy bored of his Atlanta life, seeking thrills in Memphis. Has a habit of stealing from the prison staff. Doubling as ELECTRIFIED CHARLIE.

OZIE POWELL (Male)

A Scottsboro Boy who escaped his saw mill job in Atlanta to seek better employment in Memphis. He eventually is driven to violence against the prison guards. Doubling as RUBY BATES.

Vocal range top: C5, Vocal range bottom: B2

ROY WRIGHT (Male)

A Scottsboro Boy and Andy's precocious younger brother. Smart, learned, and literate. He helps teach Haywood how to read and write. Doublings include ELECTRIFIED ISAAC and BILLY.Gender: Male

Age: 20 to 25

Vocal range top: Bb4, Vocal range bottom: B2

CHARLES WEEMS (Male)

A Scottsboro Boy, he is an illiterate man heading home to Atlanta. Doubling as VICTORIA PRICE.

Vocal range top: C5, Vocal range bottom: B2

OLEN MONTGOMERY (Male)

A Scottsboro Boy heading to Memphis to try and get new glasses after being painfully kicked out by his father. He initially tries to escape punishment by blaming others.

Vocal range top: A4, Vocal range bottom: B2


Callbacks, if needed, will be held April 27 & 28, 2017. Actors must audition to be seen at callbacks.
