this is a one-man show running a little more than an hour. The actor narrates how he got the job at Macy's and embellishes on the many odd characters and situations he experienced while being an Elf/Santa's helper. Actor need to have the ability to jump into and out of characterizations of the people Crumpet encounters throughout the piece. Voice and physical comedy experience is a plus. It's not adult fare but but definitely not for children because he talks about the backstage activities of Santa.
Can’t make the auditions? Video submission will be accepted up till 11:59pm on October 15th, email MST Artistic Director Andrew Mitchell at amitchell@cecil.edu for materials.
About The Santaland Diaries: The outrageously witty holiday cult classic, penned by NPR comic genius David Sedaris, closes out our 2018 season. Out of work and middle-aged, a writer in need of employment utilizes his gift of gab in the trade of elfdom at Macy’s Department Store. Surrounded by bratty kids with high-strung parents and donning a humbling costume, he finds that his sardonic self and his elfin alter ego, “Crumpet,” are not quite compatible. Crumpet’s remedy for the saccharine overdose he endures in his never-endingly exuberant job is to tell all – giving us a behind the scenes look into the not so glamourous lives of Santa and his elves. Though definitely not your traditional stocking stuffer, Crumpet’s hilarious recount of all the trials and tribulations that the holidays bring is sure to bring a smile to even the grouchiest face!
