***We are only accepting videos for the initial step of auditions. Please prepare one minute of an up-tempo piece and one minute of a ballad, from traditional musical theatre (no rock/pop) along with a brief introduction including your name.

CASTING BREAKDOWN

ADULT ROLES

MARIA STRAUSS – Age 30-40, Vocal Range Ab3 – F5, elegant, nouveau riche. Struggles to balance her sudden upward mobility with her motherhood, eventually sliding into darkness.

ALBERT STRAUSS – Age 30-40, Vocal Range A2 – Ab4, a slight man, bookish yet sparkling with a childlike charm, a successful clockmaker by trade. Full of heart and guilt.

DR. ANTON COPPELIUS – Age 40+, Vocal Range B2 – F#4, a world-class doctor, pompous, operatic, the living embodiment of the Sandman, a classic villain in the Child Catcher vein.

YOUTH ROLES

NATHANIEL STRAUSS – Age 10-14, Vocal Range A3 – D5, awkward, shy, and by all appearances scared of his own shadow, but grows into a hero. Imagine Ichabod Crane as a child.

THERESA STRAUSS – Age 10-14, Vocal Range A3 – F5, all kinetic energy, dreams of being a ballerina, cut short before her prime. A bossy but loving big sister to Nathaniel.

CLARA STAHLBAUM – Age 10-14, Vocal Range A3 – C5, “a thin specter,” Coppelius’s ward, recently orphaned. She eventually discovers a source of inner strength.

SYNOPSIS: Drawn from the nightmarish fantasy of E.T.A. Hoffmann, author of The Nutcracker, comes a new and darkly comic musical tale – THE SANDMAN. When the wife of an ingenious German clockmaker engages a new nanny to care for their two children, a series of bizarre and unnatural events begin to unfold. As the family is thrust ever deeper into chaos, the sinister forces at play are gradually revealed – forces from which only the children may be able to save them.

Producing The Sandman is an opportunity for our award-winning theatre company to make an impactful return to live production in our 99-seat storefront in the heart of the Las Vegas Arts District.

The writers selected Majestic Repertory Theater for their American premiere because of our reputation for tackling daring, new works. Originally slated for Fall 2020, we're excited to finally bring this Little Nightmare Musical to gleefully ghoulish light.

However, diving into any project of this size after a year-long shutdown is like cranking a Chevy that's been parked for months: we need a jumpstart.

Unlike many non-profit organizations, charitable donations only make up a small amount of our operating budget. We rely primarily on single ticket sales - but having been closed for the past year, we haven't had those sales. So, this Indiegogo campaign is like you giving us those jumper cables.

With the money raised from this campaign:

• We will be able to hire the finest theatrical designers to bring this nightmare vision to life.
• We will be able to hire an amazing cast, all of whom have been out of work for the past year.
• We will be able to pay royalties to the writers of this thrilling work.
