THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW - Washington Savoyards

Washington Savoyards, Washington DC's musical theatre and light opera company, announces auditions for The Rocky Horror Show. Production Information The Rocky Horror Show Book, Music, and Lyrics by Richard O'Brien Directed by Jay D. Brock Musical Direction by Jason Solounias

The Rocky Horror Show will run October 19th - November 4, 2012; Fridays through Sundays, with Wednesday and Thursday shows in the second two weeks of the run. Saturday evenings will include a "late show" which will end no later than midnight. Performances will take place in the Sprenger Theatre at the Atlas Performing Arts Center, located at 1333 H St NE, Washington, DC 20002.

Rehearsals begin the week of September 17th, and will take place at the Atlas Performing Arts Center and St. Paul's United Methodist Church, located at 10401 Armory Ave, Kensington, MD, 20895, and will take place weekday evenings and afternoons/evenings on the weekends. Tech week is October 13-18. Auditions Sunday, July 8, at the Atlas Center Monday, July 9, at St. Paul's United Methodist Church 3:00pm - 9:00pm both days, with a break from 5:30pm-6:30pm.

Auditions will take place in half-hour slots. Please prepare 32 bars of a pop/rock song, with sheet music, in the style of the show, and bring a headshot and resumé, 8"x10", stapled together. An accompanist will be provided.

All roles are non-Equity. A stipend will be provided.

Breakdown:

Narrator: Professorial type with a bent to the bizarre; guides us through the show.

Brad Majors: (Rock Tenor, 20s) Handsome and wholesome.

Janet Weiss: (Belt Mezzo, 20s) Brad’s fiancee. Pretty and wholesome.

Dr. Frank ‘N’ Furter: (Rock Baritone/ Tenor, 30’s) Interplanetary visitor; “a sweet transvestite” from the planet Transsexual in the galaxy of Transylvania.

Riff Raff: (Rock Tenor, 25-45). The Doctor’s VERY eccentric butler and “handyman”, (also an alien. Magenta: (Husky Rock Mezzo/Alto, 20’s-40) Another very strange servant of the Doctor. She is also an alien, and undeniably SEXY. (This Actress usually doubles as “The Usherette” who opens the show).

Columbia: (Belt Mezzo, 20s-30s) One of Dr. Frank ‘N’ Furter’s earthling groupies. Strong character actress; tap dancing a plus.

Rocky: (Rock Baritone/Tenor, 20s) The result of one of the Doctor’s unholy experiments: Good-looking, well-built, and yet, somehow… vulnerable: Frank “N” Furter’s “perfect man”.

Eddie / Dr. Scott: (Rock Tenor, 30-50) This actor plays two roles: Eddie, a delivery guy who rocks; and Eddie’s uncle, an older gentleman who is a rival scientist, confined to a wheelchair. STRONG character actor, any size.

Chorus of Phantoms: Singers/actors /dancers of all ethnicities, and a wide range of body types, who are strong rock singers.
