Announces two Open Auditions for Children’s roles in

The Nutcracker, August 3 & September 8, 2018

Open to young dancers ages 6-18, no previous dance experience required for many roles.

A performance opportunity of a lifetime this holiday season!

WHAT:

Children’s Auditions for The Nutcracker. José Mateo Ballet Theatre invites aspiring young performers of all ages to audition for the performance opportunity of a lifetime! The Company has embarked on a statewide search for 200 talented children to fill 3 casts in roles of Party Children, Mice, Soldiers, Angels, Court Attendants, Polichinelles, and the lead child role, Clara.

This holiday season marks the 31st Nutcracker production with performances at The Cutler Majestic Theatre in Boston’s historic Theatre District and Dorchester’sStrand Theatre, November 30-December 23, 2018. All children cast in the production will perform at both theaters.

WANTED:

Children and teenagers ages 6*-18

*Previous dance experience is not required for children ages 6-10

José Mateo Ballet Theatre’s Nutcracker is the only local professional production to hold OPEN auditions for young dancers outside its own school.

Cuban-born José Mateo is Founder and Artistic Director of José Mateo Ballet Theatre, one of America’s leading producers of new ballets, and the area’s most innovative school for quality ballet training. Founded in 1986, the School in Cambridge and Dorchester offers an innovative model for a high-quality academy with a humanistic approach to ballet training that fosters diversity and inclusion. The organization is the originator of Dance for World Community, a project that builds local and global networks to expand the role of dance in our culture, and the producer of the annual Dance for World Community Festival.
