THE GLASS MENAGERIE - Company Theatre
Company Theatre
to Hold Open Auditions
for The Glass Menagerie
The Company Theatre announces open auditions for their upcoming production Tennessee William's masterpiece The Glass Menagerie, to be held Monday, August 11 at 6:30 pm, at The Company Theatre Centre for the Arts, 30 Accord Park Drive, Norwell. A call back will be scheduled if necessary. All roles are open for casting, a rehearsal schedule will be available at the audition. The production will be directed by Joe Walsh, currently directing the Irish national tour of the popular musical Hairspray.
Full of poetry and longing, Tennessee Williams’ shattering classic The Glass Menagerie, is one of American Theatre’s most beloved works. Amanda Wingfield, a fading, tragic remnant of a Southern Belle living in a depression era St. Louis apartment, longs for her youth and dreams, striving for a better life for her children. Her restless son Tom - a would-be poet and the story’s narrator - gets swept up in his mother’s comical but heartbreaking schemes to find a husband for his painfully shy sister, Laura. Living in illusions, physically crippled Laura parallels her ills in emotional debilitation, driving herself into spiraling withdrawal. The crux of the action unfolds when Tom invites a young gentleman acquaintance to dinner, when Laura crudely tries to entrap the guest, momentarily lifted from her rose-colored-glass haze. An untimely revelation sends shockwaves through the family, causing dangerous cracks to form in the delicate fantasies that have kept them loosely intact. Both shattering and shimmering, The Glass Menagerie is a must-see classic for an unforgettable night of theatre.
All four roles are open for casting. Audition candidates arrive prepared to perform a short monologue and then will be asked to read from The Glass Menagerie script. Audition candidates should bring a headshot or snapshot, and a resume is helpful but not required. Actors receive a stipend at the end of the production run.
Performances of The Glass Menagerie will be held from October 3 through 19, with show times at 7:30 or 8:00 pm from Thursday through Saturday. Sunday matinee performances will be held at 3:00 pm. Tickets are available for $23.00 to $25.00. For a complete performance schedule or to order tickets, please visit
