THE DROWSY CHAPERONE - Musical Theatre Guild

Be in the cast of the Musical Theatre Guild's Fall 2012 production
of The Drowsy Chaperone!

Second Round Auditions are Tuesday, October 9th at 6pm in the MTG Office on the 4th floor of the student center.

We are currently looking for people to fill the following roles:

Man in the Chair (male): Musical theatre aficionado who mourns the end of the Golden Era. His recording of “The Drowsy Chaperone” brings the show to life as he narrates. The Man in Chair has a lot of dialogue and he must be capable of understanding comedy and the improvisational impulse that created the role. The actor must be comfortable playing “mild camp” and slightly flamboyant. Above all, this role requires a strong actor who can hold the audience's attention. A very demanding role. He is onstage for the entire show. He doesn’t need to sing until the last minutes of the show.

George(male): Robert’s anxious best man. He is loyal, sincere, and nervous. Makes looking out for Robert’s interest his top priority so that the wedding will come off without a hitch. He has a habit of freaking out at the drop of a hat.Typical period sidekick type. Needs comedic skills, be willing to learn to do some tap and should move well.

The Gangsters (male or female): Two jovial gangsters posing as pastry chefs, intending to collect from Feldzieg. Classic vaudeville duo with a strong sense of physical comedy. Typical 1920s Broadway gangsters full of word-play and stylized movements, not very intimidating. All heights and physical types strongly encouraged. Must be able to move well. May do New York accents.

We are also looking for more people of either gender for the ensemble.

The Drowsy Chaperone

Music and Lyrics by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison
Book by Bob Martin and Don McKellar

A rare combination of unprecedented originality and blinding talent,
THE DROWSYCHAPERONE boldly addresses a great unspoken desire in all of
our hearts: to be entertained. If you've ever sat in a dark theatre
and thought, "Dear Lord in heaven, please let it be good," this is the
show for you!

It all begins when a die-hard musical-theater fan plays his favorite
cast album on his turntable, and the musical literally bursts to life
in his living room, telling the rambunctious tale of a brazen Broadway
starlet trying to find, and keep, her true love.
