CASTING OLDER WOMEN SINGERS FOR READING OF NEW GIRL GROUP MUSICAL
Stage Right and the Ghostlight Initiative are looking for three non-Equity comedic singing cis actresses 45-65 for a 29-hour reading of the new musical, THE CRINOLYNNS.
THE CRINOLYNNS is about the first reunion performance by a lower tier girl group from the late 1950s/early 1960s. The show could best be described as a mashup between FOREVER PLAID and “The Golden Girls” with a dash of FOLLIES thrown in for good measure. The ladies sing a few of their old songs as well as new songs they have written in the girl group style- but instead of being about the cute boy and the class ring and the dramas of adolescence, they now sing about the realities of life and growing older without the rose- colored glasses.
Those interested in auditioning should submit a video of 32-64 bars of an era appropriate song (Think The Crystals, The Ronettes, early Carole King, and Brill Building songs.) The creatives are specifically looking for older women with a pop sound. They are not interested in legit or contemporary musical theatre songs. They are seeking women who are good storytellers, funny, likeable, and who have impeccable musical skills to sing and hold close harmonies.
It will be a 29-hour reading for a small, invited audience. Scripts/scores will be used with the ladies standing at music stands- no staging or memorization will be required at all. There will be a small stipend.
THE CRINOLYNNS has music by composer and Broadway musical director Aaron Gandy (URINETOWN, THE LION KING, Encores!) and a book/lyrics by award-winning Broadway actor and writer Scott Logsdon (LES MISERABLES, STICKS & STONES starring Audra McDonald, Roundabout Tribute to Alec Baldwin, theme song for “Stars in the House.”)
THE CRINOLYNNS reading will be held on Tuesday, June 14th. It will be rehearsed/performed in Greensburg.
