Taming of the Shrew
Theatre Under the Trees, DreamWrights’ touring Shakespeare company, will hold auditions for William Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew on Tuesday, May 30 and Wednesday, May 31, at 6 pm at DreamWrights Center For Community Arts. No advance preparation required. Actors, singers, crew, and musicians are needed.
DreamWrights is undergoing construction this summer and the space constraints have provided an exciting opportunity to focus on staging The Taming of the Shrew as simply as possible. With hints of the Bogart, Bacall and Sinatra Rat Pack era and swinging sax versions of Cole Porter classics, Theatre Under the Trees will put the lively story of two sisters in its original frame as a play staged by a travelling troupe of actors. Shakespeare has created a comedy full of flirting, wit, scheming servants, wooers disguised as tutors. The tale is centered around Katherine, one of the theatre's great heroines, who spurns everyone and everything until Petruchio undertakes the winning of her heart and hand.
The Taming of the Shrew is directed by Michelle Denise Norton, founder and director of Theatre Under the Trees. Norton attended Northwestern University, and is a writer, artist and theatre professional. This is Theatre Under the Trees' 19th summer of performances. All performances are free, although donations are gratefully accepted. Blankets, lawn chairs, and picnic baskets are encouraged.
