What:
Adult Non-Equity Auditions for Pittsburgh CLO's Gallery of Heroes production: STEEL
Seeking:
ERIK: A Hungarian immigrant looking to make a better life for his wife and child. Passionate, hard-working. (Tenor/High Baritone)
HAJNA*: Erik’s wife who joins him in America after a long separation. She has raised their son alone for many years. Strong woman. Also plays female factory worker. (Soprano)
CARNEGIE*: The enginer and entrepreneur who built up the steel industry. Torn between his humble beginnings and his meteoric rise to fortune. (Baritone)
FRICK*: Carnegie’s business associate. He does much of the dirty work for Carnegie. Brash, no-nonsense. (Bass/Baritone)
PETER*: Erik’s adult son. He has many of the ambitious, hard-working qualities of his father, but hasn’t experienced the sacrifices. (Baritone)
WORKER, PETER’S WIFE, FEMALE FACTORY WORKER*: A great character actress who plays multiple roles and ages. (Alto)
*All actors, with the exception of Erik, play multiple roles.

About the Program:
The 2017 Gallery of Heroes school tour will offer local actors the opportunity to perform in STEEL. The spring tour will run from January through May, 2017. The Gallery of Heroes program offers an entertaining alternative to traditional lectures and books.
STEEL tells the story of a Hungarian immigrant and his fellow workers' struggle to make a new life and form a union in the emerging steel industry of America. The musical takes place between 1870 and 1942.
STEEL is a musical with book, music & lyrics by Jason Coll. With direction by Jason Coll and choreography by Alivia Owen. Performers must be available during the day Monday-Friday from January through May. Rehearsals begin January 2, 2017. Both rehearsal and performances are in the daytime.

Since 1946, the Pittsburgh CLO has been the driving force behind live musical theater in Pittsburgh and the entire Southwestern Pennsylvania region. Under the direction of Van Kaplan since 1997, this not-for-profit arts organization appreciates the support of nearly 200,000 patrons each year and produces a subscription series, educational programs, national tours and develops and invests in new works, including 21 Broadway shows (29 Tony Awards®) featuring the current productions of On Your Feet, An American in Paris, Cats, Kinky Boots and Matilda The Musical. Its dedication to the musical theater art form extends to include such programs as the CLO Academy, the CLO Mini Stars, the Gene Kelly Awards, the Richard Rodgers Award, the National High School Theater Awards, the Construction Center for the Arts and the CLO Cabaret.
