ATLANTA -- The
Spivey Hall Children’s Choir Program (SHCC) at
Clayton State University, which has been providing exemplary choral music education to young singerssince 1994, will begin its 20th anniversary spring season with a
free preview night on March 17 at 7 p.m. open to the public and particularly to families, students and teachers interested in learning more about the Spivey Hall Children’s Choir Program. Attendees will have the opportunity to listen and observe a rehearsal, conducted by SHCC director
Martha Shaw and Spivey Hall Young Artists director Craig Hurley, in the 390-seat acoustically superior
Spivey Hall. Registration materials for the April 26 audition will be available in the lobby. Admission to the preview night is free, though reservations are requested and can be made by calling

Auditions for the Spivey Hall Children’s Choir Program’s
three choirs will be held on Saturday, April 26 in the Music Education Building at Clayton State University. Audition appointments will be available for male and female singers between the ages of 10 and 13 by September 1, 2014. Application materials and further information can be found at

The Spivey Hall Children’s Choir will continue its 20th anniversary season with a benefit performance at the Southern Crescent Habitat for Humanity’s An Evening for Homes & Hopeevent on March 29 at Community Bible Church in Stockbridge, Georgia. This evening of music, food and festivities helps support the mission of Habitat for Humanity and benefits low-income families in Henry, Clayton and Fayette counties. Tickets, $25 for adults and $15 for kids 10 and under, are available at

The Spivey Hall Children’s Choir Program will culminate its 2013-2014 season with three performances of their Spring Concert on May 16-18 at Spivey Hall. The Spivey Hall Young Artists, the program’s preparatory choir who performs only at the Friday, May 16 performance, will perform selections ranging from an arrangement of Bach’s tune “Lift High Every Voice” to the South African freedom song Siyahamba.” The Spivey Hall Children’s Choir and the Tour Choir, who sing at all three concerts, perform a program of choral favorites from the last 20 years that will include the world premiere of Bob Chilcott’s “Birthday Child,” which was commissioned in honor of the choir's anniversary. At these performances, metro-Atlanta audiences will have the opportunity to hear musical highlights of the program the Tour Choir will take to Seattle in June. The
Spivey Hall Children’s Choir Program was founded in 1994 to provide supplementary music education to metro-Atlanta youth. The program has grown to over 160competitively selected members, ages 10 to 18, in three choirs: the preparatory Spivey Hall Young Artists, the Spivey Hall Children’s Choir, and the Spivey Hall Tour Choir. Hundreds of children from 17 counties in Georgia have been exposed to professional-quality instruction in all aspects of vocal production, musicianship, and choral performance,and have benefitted from the program’s emphasis on helping young people develop self-reliance, personal integrity, responsibility, compassion, and confidence. As culturalambassadors of the State of Georgia, the Spivey Hall Tour Choir has recorded four professional CDs and performed in the United States, Canada, Sweden, Norway, England,Austria, the Czech Republic, China and Scotland. This past summer the singers performed at the Piccolo Spoleto Festival in Charleston, South Carolina, and they will tour to Seattle, Washington this June.

About the Spivey Hall Children’s Choir Program
Located on the campus of Clayton State University and dedicated to music education and artistic excellence, the
Spivey Hall Children’s Choir Program (SHCC) offersprofessional-level instruction in vocal technique, music theory, sight singing, ear training, and presentation, as well as exposure to a variety of choral styles to singers ages 10 to 18. Involvement also helps develop self-reliance, personal integrity, responsibility, compassion, teamwork, and confidence. Spivey Hall Children’s Choir, the largest ensemble of theprogram under the direction of
Martha Shaw, featuring some 120 singers; and the
Spivey Hall Tour Choir, which is a traveling performance ensemble. The Tour Choir hasrecorded four professional
CDs and performed to acclaim throughout the United States, Canada, Sweden, Norway, England, Austria, the Czech Republic, China and Scotland.
