SO FAST IT GOES - NY Summerfest Theater Festival/Hudson Guild Theatre

SO FAST IT GOES

Writer, Director, Producer, Casting Director: Ilene Starger

This is a non-AEA production of a ten-minute short play, which will be given three performances at The Hudson Guild Theatre in NYC, as part of The NY Summerfest Theater Festival. The play will be presented alongside other short plays in the Festival; several short plays are presented every evening while the Festival is on.

Rehearsals begin late August/early September 2018 for a few part-time days, schedule tbd.

Performances are locked in and will be: Thursday evening September 13, 2018 at 6:15 p.m. (with earlier tech rehearsal 1:45 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.Thursday afternoon); Friday evening September 14, 2018 at 6:15 p.m.; and Sunday evening September 16, 2018 at 8:30 p.m. If the play is chosen as a finalist, there would be an awards ceremony/partial performance of it on Tuesday October 9, 2018.

The evening times vary, and actresses must be available to get to the theatre early enough prior to performances to prepare.

Please submit electronically – no phone calls, please.

Please do not submit AEA members at this time, given that production will be most likely be non-AEA/non-Equity waiver, due to budget limitations.

Rate: $125 stipend plus access to other plays in the festival

Please submit only those actresses who are fully available for the abovementioned dates.

Storyline – The world accelerates; the past retains its grip. Two women - strangers - of different generations and backgrounds wait at a bus stop. In a whirring, impersonal city (not necessarily New York), human connection is vital; yet people can remain oblivious to the world around them, and to each other, until life intervenes.

Seeking:

Older Woman – late 60s to early 80s age range. She is elegant, svelte, rather proper; she is not especially ‘modern' or youthful-looking. She likely has gray, or graying, hair. She was born at a time when excellent manners, and a code of behavior, mattered. She is not necessarily Southern, but there is something of a faded Southern belle about her. She does not have typical NY energy/quality, as the play is not necessarily set in NY. She is bewildered by changes in the world, and in her own society. (IMPORTANT NOTE: This role requires tremendous memorization of dialogue, as the character delivers an intense monologue which comprises the bulk of the play. Please only submit actresses who are expert in this regard, as the performance of the play is dependent on an actress’s ability to unhesitatingly, and confidently, deliver a cascade of dialogue.) Non-Equity members only, please. Theater experience preferred.
