SMORGASBORD! - TheatreWorks New Milford

TheatreWorks New Milford is seeking a male tenor ages 30-60. Auditions will be by appointment only on Saturday September 10 from 2 to 5 pm.

SMORGASBORD!, with original music and lyrics by Blake, premiered at New Haven’s Theatre-in-the-Park in 1983. It enjoyed two runs at The Duplex Cabaret in Greenwich Village as well as performances in Boston, Washington D.C. and throughout Connecticut. Newly improved and fortified, the latest production will run at TheatreWorks from December 2 through 17, 2022. Mr. Blake will direct this production with music direction by Charles Smith.

The cast is comprised of 2 women (soprano and alto) and 2 men (tenor and baritone) with strong musical ability, experience with singing harmony, and strong, disciplined comic talents. Each performer has 2 solos, 2 duets, and there are 8 full cast numbers. Each musical number hilariously sends up different food types, dining habits, culinary fads, etc. The four cast members play a different character in each number they perform: sort of a musical sketch-comedy show.

We are seeking a tenor ages 30-60. You must sing up to solid A and be able to confidently hold his part in choral arrangements. Comic versatility required. Although not a ‘dance show’, there is some choreographed staging so candidates must be comfortable with movement.

Please prepare two musical theatre songs that show off your vocal range and comic ability. Each selection should be 32 measures long. An accompanist will be provided. IMPORTANT: Please bring sheet music IN YOUR KEY. All auditioners must sing with piano accompaniment. No a cappella and no recorded tracks will be permitted. No charts or fake books, no notes on napkins, no music on phones or tablets. Music selection of 32 bars should be clearly marked. Music should be in a binder or on no more than two loose separate sheets across (no stapled music.) so that it's possible to set it on a standard music stand. If it's in a book, it needs to stay open when on a music stand.?
