The Arvada Center will hold auditions for the musical, Sister Act May 12 and 13 (Chorus Dance Call on May 10) and in New York City, on May 25. Denver Callbacks are scheduled for May 16. Sister Act will be directed by Arvada Center Artistic Producer Rod A. Lansberry with musical direction by David Nehls and choreography by Kitty Skillman Hilsabeck.
Adult Principal and Chorus:
Colorado Principal/Chorus auditions are on May 12 and 13, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., by appointment only. The Women’s Chorus dance call is 10:00 a.m. to 11:15 a.m., and Men’s Chorus dance call is 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. on May 10. All dance calls are by appointment only and dancers may be asked to sing. Call the Arvada Center Box Office at 720-898-7200 to schedule an appointment time. Please do not contact the production staff to schedule an appointment . Actors must be 18 years & older to audition.
General Audition Requirements for Sister Act:
Experienced performers with strong acting and singing abilities are needed. Good movement abilities are required. See the character breakdown (below) for specifics on available roles. Actors should prepare 16-32 bars from a song appropriate to the style of show. Please bring sheet music; an accompanist will be provided. Recorded music or a cappella audition will eliminate casting consideration. A current headshot and résumé are required. Audio and video submissions will not be considered . Equity members must have a current equity ID card. This is an Equity LORT B production, non-equity actors will be considered. Individuals of all ethnic and cultural backgrounds are needed and encouraged to audition for all roles.

Rehearsal and Performance Dates:
Rehearsals for Sister Act begin on August 12, 2016. The production opens on September 9 and runs through October 2, 2016. Performances are Tuesday through Saturday evenings with matinees on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays for a total of eight shows per week.
Sister Act - Character Breakdown
Curtis Jackson : Notorious gangster and Deloris’ boyfriend; 30 to 45. Cocky and controlling, always on the verge of violence. African American preferred. Tenor who moves well.
Eddie Souther : Well intentioned desk chief at the Philadelphia police station; 25 to 35. Secretly in love with Deloris. He faces a lot of nerves when under pressure, causing him to sweat profusely, but underneath has the heart of a hero. African American preferred. Tenor who moves well.
Joey : One of Curtis’ thugs; 30 to 40. Large and masculine; he believes himself to be quite a ladies’ man. Tenor who moves well.
Pablo : One of Curtis’ thugs; 25 to 40. A natural follower, but with a dangerous demeanor. He speaks mostly in Spanish. Tenor with strong falsetto who moves well.
TJ : Curtis’ nephew and one of his thugs; 20 to 30. Lovable goofball; constantly in a state of ignorant bliss. African American preferred. Tenor with strong falsetto who moves well.
Deloris Van Cartier : An aspiring vocalist, trying to find both fame and a place in the world; 25 to 35. Loud-mouthed and sassy, but with a heart of gold. African American. Accomplished comedic actress with star quality. Soprano with strong mix who moves very well.
Mother Superior : The spiritual head of the convent, wryly humorous, but a bit stiff; 45 to 55. Extremely protective about keeping her fellow sisters away from the dangers of the outside world. Accomplished actress who sings well. Soprano.
Sister Mary Robert (Age Range: 18-25) F#3 (below middle C)-A5 Needs a strong belt and legit voice. A young, innocent postulant, Her shy personality masks a huge, show-stopping powerful singing voice... shy and quiet until Deloris brings out the best in her. Good movement required.
Monsignor O’Hara (Age Range: 40-70) A gentle, kind man who is a bored, uninspired preacher until he becomes more confident and more like a Las Vegas MC. Stately but benevolent with an Irish twinkle. Not a singing or dancing role.
Sister Mary Patrick (Age Range: 18-30) Soprano (vocal range G3-E6).Upbeat, fun, and filled with love and delight in God, and friendship. She is the eternal optimist. She is always the head cheerleader ready for an adventure, a life experience, or between mealtime snack. Has a round, heavy physique. Strong comic. Needs a strong belt and legit voice.
Sister Mary Lazarus (Age Range: 50-70) Alto (vocal range F3-B4). Strong belt and legit a plus, but needs to be able to rap and be a great comic. An older, crabby choir mistress, snappy and seemingly grumpy. Has to rap and move quite well. Tough, full of vinegar and humor, with twice the energy of anyone half her age. She’s quick on the wisecracks and always ready to roll up her sleeves and dig in.
Michelle & Tina (Age Range: 20-30) Mezzo sopranos (vocal ranges Ab3-F5). All ethnicities considered. Backing vocalist in Curtis’ club. Excellent vocals and movement required.
Ensemble (Age Range: Any)
Various feature roles. Great singers with disco falsetto, and strong movers of all ethnic types, shapes and sizes. Should have style and the ability to play various small roles- including blue-collar Philadelphians- nuns and understudy principal roles.
