Auditions for SIGHT UNSEEN at Town Players
Town Players of Newtown announces auditions for SIGHT UNSEEN by Don Margulies on Sunday and Monday, June 5 & 6, from 7-9 PM.
Jonathan Waxman is a very wealthy, critically acclaimed artist – so much so that collectors buy his works “sight unseen.” His father has recently died, and although Jonathan is successful and happily married, he is struggling with self-doubt and seeking to recapture his artistic inspiration. While in London for a major retrospective of his work, Jonathan acts on impulse and visits Patricia, a former model and his former lover. Patricia now lives in a Norfolk farmhouse with her older archeologist husband Nick, where they work together excavating Roman ruins. She invites Jonathan to stay the night, and tensions arise over old wounds and current insecurities.
While in England, Jonathan also meets Grete, a young German scholar-journalist, who questions his motivations for his art and self-promotion. She mentions his Jewish heritage so frequently that Jonathan accuses her of anti-Semitism.
SIGHT UNSEEN explores questions about art, money, love, inspiration, their codependency and the ways in which they are inextricably entangled.
Sherry Asch of Brewster, NY will direct.
The production calls for two men and two women. If possible, actors should read the play in advance and be ready to read sides from the script. No appointment is necessary. All roles are available. Character descriptions are available at
