Emergency Casting for Arden Playhouse

"SCHEMES & SCAMS OF SCAPIN", a revised and updated version of Moliere's classic farce "Scapin". Although revised, this version by the writer who has been called one of the greatest masters of comedy in western literature, retains all of the wild farcical situations, commedia style, dazzling comic dialogue and fast pace of the original.

Characters needed: (note that the ages listed are ranges you can portray, not necessarily your actual age)

Leandre--late 20's to late 30's, male, impetuous, energetic
Sylvia--30's to 50's, female, cynical but thoughtful, always ready to help


Rehearsals start 30 July, generally Mon-Thurs. at 7pm, some additional times needed as we get closer to opening. Opens Fri. 7 Sept. runs Fri. & Sat. nights at 8 through 20 Oct. with Sun. matinees at 2 on 16 and 30 Sept. Many "french scenes" so not all actors have to be present for every rehearsal.

Enter Brede Place, the most haunted mansion in England, inhabited by famed American author, Stephen Crane, during the final days of his life. Surrounded by a cast of enigmatic characters (including famous literary giants such as H.G. Wells and Henry James,) Crane begins to question his sanity as he is haunted by mysterious screams and things that go bump in the night. A ghoulish exploration of reality, art, love, and all those other things that roam our nightmares.

All actors please bring a headshot and resume. Auditions will consist of cold-readings from the script.

Celebration Arts announces auditions for
Knock Me A Kiss, a play by Charles Smith.
The Play
This play is a fictional account inspired by the actual events surrounding the 1928 marriage of W.E.B. Du Bois' daughter, Yolande, to one of Harlem's great poets, Countee Cullen.The marriage marked the height of the Harlem Renaissance and was viewed as a perfect union of talent and beauty.Prior to the marriage, Yolande was hotly pursued by jazz bandleader Jimmy Lunceford.The play follows her effort to choose between her passion for Jimmy and marrying Countee out of devotion to her father.
Roles
YOLANDE DU BOIS -Black female (20's), daughter of W.E.B. Du Bois.She is a romantic who has led a sheltered life.
JIMMY LUNCEFORD - Black male (20's).A big band leader, graduate of Fisk University and former high school teacher.Down to earth and very practical, up on current trends and fashions and meticulous when it comes to music.
NINA DU BOIS - Black female (60')Wife of D.W.B. Du Bois (60's).She lives in the shadow of her husband whom she met while a student in one of his classes.She has never recovered from the death of her 18-month-old son.She blames her husband for that death.
WILLIAM EDWARD BURGHARDT (W.E.B) DU BOIS - Black Male (60's) He is active in national and international politics, and recognizes that he is a better politician than he is a husband and father.Even so, he considers his personal sacrifices for the promotion of his personal agenda well worth it.He maintains a very businesslike relationship with his wife and daughter.
COUNTEE CULLEN - Black male (20's) A poet genius and protégé of W.E.B. Du Bois.He is clearly a product of the Ivory Tower.Cullen is warm and charming.
LENORA - Black female (20's)Friend and confidant of Yolande. Sheis the down-to-earth, no-nonsense, tell-it-like-it-is type of friend.

The play will open August 24 and run Thursday through Sunday, closing on September 29, 2012, for a total of 21 performances.

The Audition
The audition will consist of readings from the script. However, presentation of a monologue is quite helpful in assessing the actor's skill.

In the little village of Anatevka, Tevye, a poor dairyman, tries to instill in his five daughters the traditions of his tight-knit Jewish community in the face of changing social mores and the growing anti-Semitism of Czarist Russia. Rich in historical and ethnic detail, "Fiddler on the Roof" has touched audiences around the world with its humor, warmth and honesty. The universal theme of tradition cuts across barriers of race, class, nationality and religion, leaving audiences crying tears of laughter, joy and sadness.

The show features a star turn in Tevye (pre-cast for this production), among the most memorable roles in musical theatre. Original director/choreographer Jerome Robbins' staging is legendary, Its celebrated score by Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick, features songs loved the world over: "Sunrise, Sunset," "If I Were a Rich Man" and "Matchmaker," to name a few. "Fiddler on the Roof" is simply Broadway at its very best. Roles are available for actors age 9 to 90! Auditions will consist of cold reading from the script and a short dance combination to be taught at the audition. If you have dance experience, all the better! Come prepared with 16 measures of a song (not from Fiddler) that showcase your range and ability. A pianist will be provided - bring your music - no CDs or a capella, please.

At the initial audition, please prepare 16 measures of a comedic, musical theatre style song, which showcases your vocal abilities; no Disney, no "a cappella". A pianist will be provided, so please bring a copy of your sheet music (in the key in which you will be singing) with any cuts or revisions clearly marked for the pianist.Cold readings from the script and a dance audition will follow, so please dress appropriately or bring a change of dance clothes and shoes. Something that you can easily move in.

"A Little Princess"
Adapted from the novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett
Final Audition: July 9th from 5-7PM.
Auditioning for girls ages 11-15 for the students of Miss Minchin's boarding house, some who may double as townspeople. (One character is under 10). Call with questions on ages.


Cost for auditioning is free. Workshop tuition is just $200.00 + costumes for the 6 week workshop which includes class instruction and training, rehearsals and performances. Some financial work/study help is available on a first come-first served basis. Some parent participation is required. Classes begin July 30th.


All girls enrolled in the class will have roles in the production.


Synopsis:
Sara Crewe is a very intelligent, polite, and creative young daughter of Captain Crewe, a wealthy soldier stationed in India who is sent from India (her birthplace) to London for a formal education. She soon meetsMiss Minchin, the headmistress of the school, who dislikes Sara from the start, but tries to flatter her because of her father's money.

On Sara's eleventh birthday, she receives a doll from her papa, naming it as "Last doll" as she will soon be too grown up for dolls. On the very same day, Miss Minchin receives a letter stating that Sara's father died after his friend ran away with all his money. She cruelly tells Sara that from now on she will have to work as a servant to the rest of the girls.

Meanwhile, a man from India comes to stay in the house next to the school, in search of his friend's daughter, not knowing that girl is Sara. He happens to see the condition of Sara's room and decides to make her life better by presenting gifts and surprises. Sara, who is very thankful to the "mysterious friend", cannot figure out who the "friend" is. In the end, she learns of her benefactor, and proves, by her behavior in a series of trying situations, that a being a princess is not about money or position, but about character.

"Laughing With The Comics"

This is a one night event where contestants will be mentored by local comedians and will compete against one another.

Part of the winners package will be a five minute set at "Laughs Unlimited" in Sacramento!!...

Auditions are for ages 18 and over and will be held at 6:00pm on Thursday, July 12 at the Yuba-Sutter Regional Arts Council, 624 E Street, Marysville.

You will need to come prepared with a 1-3 minute comedy routine on the night of the auditions. We are looking for participants who have limited or no experience doing stand-up comedy.

This one night only performance will be held at 7:00pm on August 24th at the Lee Burrows Arts Center.

Participants will be paired together with a local comic who will mentor them for 6 weeks. They will learn how to write a stand-up comedy routine, prepare and perform in front of an audience the night of the performance.

Woodland Opera House Auditions

The Woodland Opera House will hold auditions for "Pinkalicious" a new musical based on the popular children's book by Elizabeth Kann and Victoria Kann.

Auditions will be on July 15 and 16 at 6:00 p.m. at the theatre at 340 2nd Street. Callbacks will be held on July 18 at 6:00 pm. Please come with a prepared song and the sheet music.An accompanist will be provided.Dress to dance.

Roles include; Pinkalicious, a little girl who discovers that eating too many pink cupcakes can be a big problem (age range 9-12), Peter, her brother (age range 9-12), Alison, her friend (age range 9-12), Mrs. Pinkerton, her mother (adult), Mr. Pinkerton, her father (adult), Dr. Wink, her pediatrician (adult) and a chorus of singing and dancing birds, bees and butterflies (age range 7-18)

The show will rehearse Sunday through Thursday evenings from August 26 through October 18 from 6:30-8:30 pm. Performance dates are October 19 through November 4 on Fridays at 7:30 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays at 2 p.m. There will be School Outreach performances on Oct. 25 at 10 a.m and 1p.m.

RTAA Into the Woods Auditions -Save the Date!

RTAA would like to thank everyone who has given their time and talent to the beautiful Roseville Theater stage by inviting you all to audition for our first adult musical "Into The Woods". This will be a labor of love for all of us who so love this iconic stage and the glorious music of Stephen Sondheim. Auditions will be held at 8:00p on July 23 and 24th, 2012, with callbacks on July 25th, here at RTAA 241 Vernon St., Roseville.

Please bring 16 bars (32 if cut time) of your favorite audition piece, head shot and resume if you have one and be prepared to dance as well. Rehearsals 8 to 10 Mon. thru Thurs. beginning August 6th. Performances Friday & Saturday nights at 7:30; Sundays at 2:00 from September 28th through October 20th, 2012.
