In RASHEEDA SPEAKING - Jaclyn Spaulding, a black woman has been out sick for five days and returns to her job in a Chicago surgeon's front office to discover that her co-worker Ileen a white woman has been promoted to Office Manager. It's a cramped, two-person reception area, and from the look of things, Ileen with her messy desk and unorganized drawers can barely manage her half of it. Neat-freak, plant-loving, toxin-phobic Jaclyn quickly becomes aware Ileen will be managing her.
It turns out that their boss, smooth operator Dr. Williams is more than a little put off by Jaclyn's supposed attitude and rudeness. Dr, Williams enlists Ileen, a reluctant spy, to log Jaclyn's tardiness, rudeness with clients, and bizarre behavior, in order to help him build a case for her dismissal. Despite Ileen's initial reluctance to betray Jaclyn, she knows how to take orders, especially from a complementing boss who she admires and is dedicated to. A tense power struggle ensues that twists and turns wildly out of control and reveals office racial struggles that have existed in the work place of this country for many years.
Roles for three women and one man:
DR. DAVID WILLIAMS (Caucasian Man 35-45) smugly charming , a self-centered individual , happy with himself but is not thrilled with one of his two-person clerical staff.
JACLYN SPAULDING (African American Woman 45-55) is a humorous and biting slice of reality, cunning mature woman who understands all too well what's going on with both clueless white people and white people who know exactly what they're doing.
ILEEN VAN METER (Caucasian Woman 45-55) Smart , business sense mature woman who has a sensitive side. Clearly fragile at times with passive-aggressive tendencies who eventually becomes an neurotic wreck.
ROSE SAUNDERS (Caucasian Woman 70's and over ) A nervous Senior patient. A nice lady who seemingly is verbally abused and assumes it's because of "their" -"still being angry about slavery."
