Character Descriptions:
The show is performed in a comfortable, yet musically-precise style that emphasizes virtuosity, range, and character. The four Pump Boys play instruments to a high professional level throughout, and the Cupp Sisters join in on percussion plus other instruments as able.

All musicians should be able to improvise very well in a country/blues style. Actors who can play multiple instruments are highly desirable. Possible instruments include: Guitar, fiddle, mandolin, banjo, ukelele, accordion, and various percussion (tamb, shakers, also found objects/props onstage).

Jim (Male, 25-50)
Co-owner of the gas station, charming, calm and likable. The main narrator of the night; must be able to comfortably interact with the audience. Must also be an excellent singer and rhythm guitar player.

L.M. (Male, 25-50)
Longtime friend and coworker of Jim; the most attractive of the pump boys. Women love him, but he’s suspicious of their affection and has eyes only for Dolly Parton. Must have a strong country voice and play piano.

Jackson (Male, 25-50)
Gas station employee; clean-cut, ladies’ man. Must have strong rock/folk voice and play guitar. Multiple instruments: harmonica, mandolin, etc., are a plus.

Eddie (Male, 25-50)
Silent presence with brief, comedic interactions. Baritone who plays electric guitar and bass.

Rhetta Cupp (Female, 25-50)
No-nonsense and hardworking; the co-owner and operator of the Double Cupp diner. Strong country singer who plays percussion.

Prudie Cupp (Female, 25-50)
Rhetta’s younger sister; charming, fun and full of life. Strong country singer who plays percussion.
