Over the River and Through the Woods, a witty and heart-warming American comedy, portrays a young New Jersey man who is offered a promotion in Seattle that will take him 2,000 miles away from home, and his Italian-American immigrant grandparents who left behind their own famiglia in Italy for the chance at a better life and the American Dream. These grandparents turn out to be very creative in trying to prevent their grandson from leaving them.
What are the sacrifices people make to pursue opportunities? Should we put work first, or family? Should older generations insist on passing on the value of family and traditions, or is that just a huge guilt trip? These are the deeper themes that are treated in this very funny play by Joe DiPietro.
The play runs November 2, 3, 4, 8, 9, 10, 11 at the Burton Leavitt Theatre in Willimantic.
