NICA AUDITION TOUR - The National Insitute of Circus Arts

The National Institute of Circus Arts (NICA) will be touring the country in search of Australia’s future circus stars!

NICA is calling for young people with backgrounds in areas such as circus,
gymnastics, dance, martial arts and theatre to audition for a place in
Australia’s only Bachelor of Circus Arts.

As the country’s Centre of Excellence in contemporary circus arts training,
positions at NICA are highly sought after and attract Australia’s most
talented, physically gifted and creative young performers.

In 2001, NICA pioneered Australia’s first Bachelor of Circus Arts, with an
aim to prepare students for national and international careers in contemporary circus arts and physical theatre. Graduate artists are employed internationally by companies such as Cirque du Soleil (worldwide), Dragone (China), Carnival Australia, Circa (Australia and touring internationally), Circus Oz (Australia and touring internationally),
Cavalia (Canada and touring internationally) and NoFit State Circus (United Kingdom). Many others establish small project companies that tour festival circuits throughout Australia and the world.

Study areas in the course include individual and group circus acts; performance and movement skills; circus history and cultural studies; circus business and career management; anatomy, physiology, nutrition and sports psychology for circus artists; and health and safety in the circus environment. The Bachelor of Circus Arts is an innovative three-year degree program based at NICA in Melbourne, at the Swinburne University of Technology Prahran campus. Entry into NICA is by audition, interview and
successful completion of a medical assessment. Applicants must apply to audition. NICA also offers two foundation courses, the Certificate III and Certificate IV in Circus Arts. Prospective students must complete an online application form and can
attend an audition in the location nearest them.

Auditions will be led by NICA Head of Circus Studies, James Brown who has worked worldwide for acclaimed project companies and performed in the world premier musical King Kong; and VE Coordinator, Tegan Carmichael who has worked with Opera
Circus, Freedom 2 Move, Victorian State School Spectacular and co-founder of Affinity Circus.
