Next To Normal, with book and lyrics by Brian Yorkey and music by Tom Kitt, explores how one suburban household copes with crisis and mental illness. Winner of three 2009 TONY Awards including Best Musical Score and the 2010 Pulitzer Prize, Next To Normal was also chosen as one of the year's ten best shows by critics around the country, including The Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post, Rolling Stone and The New York Times.

Sunday, August 2 at 6:00 p.m.
Monday, August 3 at 7:00 p.m.
Tuesday, August 4 at 7:00 p.m.

The address for auditions and arrival time will be provided after an RSVP is received.
You will also receive an Audition form to complete prior to coming to audition.
Sorry, walk-ins for auditions will not be permitted.
We will attempt to accommodate your preferred date.
However, we will need to insure that each night is manageable and fair to all candidates due to anticipated high turnout. Therefore we may ask you to attend on a different date. We appreciate your flexibility.
All actors are non-paid.


Please prepare a dramatic monologue that is 1 to 2 minutes in length.
Prepare to sing 16 bars of music.
An accompanist will be provided.
You may be asked to sing a cappella to test your vocal range.
No CD/mp3/iPod tracks may be used.
Headshots are preferred but not required.
Photos will be taken of each actor.
Everyone auditioning will be notified via Email as to their status.
All actors should arrive promptly for their audition.


Character Breakdown:

2 Female
4 Male

Diana
Delusional, bipolar, and depressed. The sexiness of her yesterdays has only recently begun to soften. She is determined to make her family perfect but is tortured by a death in the family. Female actor who can play 40-45 yrs old. Range: G3 - F#5.

Gabe
Diana & Dan's son. Dashing, athletic, and bright. He is a playful man and everything a mother could imagine. Male actor who can play 18-21 yrs old. Range: B2 - C5.

Dan
Diana's husband. He is handsome and genuine. Though a constant in Diana's tumultuous life, he has grown tired and weary of her antics. Male actor who can play 40-45 yrs old. Range: Ab2 - B4.

Natalie
Diana & Dan's troubled daughter. An accomplished pianist and hardworking student, her struggles are exacerbated by her mother's behavior. She greatly admires Henry. Female actor who can play 16 yrs old. Range: G3 - G5

Henry
Natalie's classmate. The all-around musician, philosopher, and slacker. He has an intoxicating capacity for sympathy and romance. Male actor who can play 17 yrs old. Range: G#2 - B4.

Dr. Madden
Diana's handsome psychiatrist. Quite assured in his practice and considered somewhat of a rock star. Male actor who can play 30-40 yrs old. Range: A2 - A4.

Rehearsal and Performance Dates

Mandatory First Cast Gathering on Saturday, August 15th.
Rehearsals are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday each week from 7pm to 10pm, fromAugust 8 – October 22. Please bring your calendar with any conflicts you will have meeting the rehearsal schedule to auditions.

All performers must sign an agreement to abide by the policies set by the Board of Directors of mad Theatre of Tampa, Inc.
