Out of the Box Theatre Company is casting "Next to Normal," which chronicles the life of Diana and her family who are all struggling with Diana's delusional bipolar disorder after the death of her son, Gabe. Rehearsals start March 25. Performances run May 2-12 at the Center Stage Theater in Santa Barbara, CA. All auditions, rehearsals and performances will be held in Santa Barbara, CA.
Seeking— Diana: female, late 30s-40s, Caucasian, sexy, sharp, delusional bipolar depressive, strong belt. Dan: male, late 30s-40s, Caucasian, Diana's husband, fighting to hold on to his marriage and to bring his wife back to stability, exhausted but supportive, has been trying to keep his wife and family together for the past sixteen years but most of the time his efforts defeat him, pop/rock tenor. Gabe: male, to play 18, Caucasian, Diana's son, attractive, playful young man, bright, positive, caring, everything a mother could want, tenor. Natalie: female, to play 16-18, Caucasian, Diana's overachieving daughter, tries to please everyone, attempts to be perfect if only to gain her parent's love and attention, turns to her mother's prescriptions when she no longer feels that her mother will notice her, struggles with the greatest fear that she will turn into her emotionally unstable mother, strong belt. Henry: male, to play 16-18, Natalie's musician boyfriend, romantic but a stoner and slacker, tenor. Dr. Madden: male, 30s, on the young side of ageless, assured, a rock star, tenor. Note: Looking for exceptional actors with great voices, especially skilled with a rock/musical theater sound.
